Veteran 297![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: who's trying for IMWI 2010??well, I wasn't sure if ironman would be a one time deal for me or not. but I'm hooked! Hoping to get a spot for IMWI in 2010. I was actually registered for the inaugural event years ago (WI is my home and UW my alma mader) but didn't race due to injury. Its going to be so great to go home for an ironman! I hope that I get in! Any tips for online registration? |

Good luck getting in! If you will race 40-44 next year, then yes you should do it. If 35-39 then you should do Arizona or Florida or something. |

I feel like I'm 25-29 (thank you triathlon), but will be racing 40-44 next year. |

My brother who raced his first at IMNZ 08 and myself who is racing IMFL 09 will being trying to get a couple slots for some head to head, brother vs brother, Ironman braggin rights. We are born and raised Chicagoans who now live in the south. All of our family is still in Chicago and we have a cabin in Wisconsin so we would have a great cheering section and a nice place to recover. I am just hoping that the new pay on site policy and the economic conditions will continue the trend of longer sign up periods. Good luck to all! |

If it is anything like in the past you need to be sitting at the keyboard at 5 min before the clock strikes noon. You can give a couple of test submits to see if it opens early. One of my buddys got in online before it officially struck noon. Otherwise you just click on the link and you will 9 times out of 10 get a time out message saying the server is busy. Just keep refreshing until you get through. Even once you get on the initial page and click to go to the next page it may flash the server busy message so you just keep refreshing until you get through all the pages. It is a pain but it is the way things are done for now. |

Veteran 257![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Iowa | Subject: RE: who's trying for IMWI 2010??I'm still trying to decide if I want to register. I know the spots will be non-existant before too much longer. I have ran 2 half marathons and a sprint and Oly distance tri and am really fascinated with the Ironman. I am scheduled for the Kansas HIM in June and was wanting to go watch this race next year, then doing it in 2011. Advice anyone?? |

If you can make sure you can dedicate the time to training for an IM then you can complete it. You will need to really ramp up your bike time (based on your logs). That is the key thing. Making sure you have the time and commitment to put into training for it. If you can do that, the race is just the big party at the end of it. |

Advice anyone??[/QUOTE] If you decide to wait until 2011, if at all possible volunteer for 2010. I just did this weekend and it is awesome and worth every penny you will spend. Plus, next year when I show up I will have to deal with the nervousness of the race, not the logistics. I now know exactly what to do with my bike, what to put in my gear bags, how T1 and T2 goes, etc. I saw a lot of people who had their act together and a lot who should have had someone help them organize and prepare better. When you come into transition, your mind is not all there and the volunteers are a huge help to get you going again! However, if you register for 2010, you have a year to prepare. |

Veteran 257![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Iowa | Subject: RE: who's trying for IMWI 2010??Yeah my bike leg is probably the weakest link for me right now. I just need to put more time in and get that comfortable feeling. Looking at upgrading to a newer bike, so hopefully that will help with the comfort part. Greg - How does a guy go about volunteering for the race and do you get to pick what you want to do?? That was what I was originally thinking so I could scope out the race a year in advance so I would know what to expect come race day. I have already reserved a hotel room for the 3 days, so that is probably the route I should go. I want it to be an enjoyable experience and there is no reason to rush into it unprepared. The HIM in June will be my biggest challenge to date. How long before spots will be gone for 2010, any ideas........just in case?? |

I think it was only online last year for a very short time (like minutes) and then closed. As far as volunteering, in April you can get the list of positions and just sign up. They had over 4400 volunteers this year and could have used more! We are there for the athletes as it is their day, but I have to say that if you have some self-confidence issues, volunteering beats seeing a shrink! What he said ^^^^^ I volunteered this weekend and it was incredible. Besides being extremely rewarding, learning the logistics prior to doing the race is very helpful. Plus I picked up some good tips watching/helping folks navigate through T2. Can't wait for 2010 |

Veteran 257![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Iowa | Subject: RE: who's trying for IMWI 2010??DB- so are you racing next year then?? I think I have made up my mind to volunteer next year and race in 2011. This is probably the smart move especially since I am still coaching high school wrestling, sitting for the professional engineering exam next Oct. and have a wife and 2 small kids. I am sure everyone else is just as busy and it is interesting that the busier I am, the more creative I am at finding ways to train and not have to miss family time. |

Yep, my wife and I are both racing next year. We don't have kids so it is easier for us. I don't know how you parents do it. Hats off to ya! |
