Best work out time? I am trying to fit my training in at different times through out the day. My natural inclination is to save my workout for the end of the day. I have also tried a few EARLY workouts - so what works best for you?

Are there any health benefits to working out in the AM VS PM ?

If you have any great motivational epitaphs about early to rise that will shame me into waking up early I would appreciate it!

I chose all of the above

Time for me is a premium and I will take every chance I can get for my training.

Before work, On the way to and from work (Commuting), Lunch Time and after work/evening time.

I don't mind making use of the trainer in the garage, the treadie at the gym if the hours are not compatible with outdoor training. Gotta do what we can to arrive at the start line in as best shape as possible.

After work is best for me. But it can't be too late. There are no street lights where I live. We have a vet's appointment this afternoon so I had to get my (recovery) run in this morning. Here's what I blogged about it:

"In case anyone wonders why I don't like morning runs: It's 35 degrees out and the wind is blowing at 20 mph. My eyes and nose were cranking out the gunk as if I were sobbing. Snot rockets every two minutes. Then I got stitches 25 min into my planned 30-min run and decided to walk home. It sucked."

Same deal tomorrow because I have a work meeting until 6 p.m....

I've been waking up at 4:45 for a year or so to get in workouts before work. Then I do it again at lunch time so I don't have to lose any family time when i get home for the day.

90 percent of the time it's lunch and the pm.  I have to be at work at 7, so getting training in before that gets hard.  Plus I just can't get up that early..

If one of my workouts is less than an hour (most of the time, that's the case), I do it at lunch and the longer one after work (it helps that the gym is less than 5min away from the office).  If both workouts over an hour, then I HTFU and force myself out of bed and do the AM/PM thingy...

3:00 AM gives me an hour and a half to work out before I get ready for work, then right after work is the second workout of the day

So the answer is, "Yes."

AM workouts are hard for me to schedule during the weekdays.  I can get maybe 1-2 morning swims in a week, but most of my runs/bikes are are evening/night.  I really enjoy running late at night for some reason...  My weekend long run and long bike are both 7am starts though.

I get three shots; before after or during, usually there is a conflict with at least one, often two, but rarely all three.  That translates into, I usually do two workouts, rarely do no workouts and sometimes do one or three.  When season is over, I will make one workout my norm - can't wait.

I often have to be at work at 6:30, so weekday mornings are out. I'll sometimes squeeze in 30 minutes at the pool during lunch breaks. Most of the magic happens after work, right around sunset.

Of course, on weekends, all bets are off...

I chose 3 different answers b/c I'm all ove the place with my training. Running and biking often occurs in the AM, swims in the afternoon, spinning in the evening.

My weekend workouts tend to occur in the morning/midday, but during the week it's after work, since I already get up at 5 as it is.

I tend to work out in the evening after work during the week.. the weekends i workout in the morning..

i don't think their any health benefits am vs pm. it depends on how you adapt to am vs pm training. if you get really tired after working out and require a nap (or just drained) am workouts are not for you in my opinion.

I have a hard time with morning workouts, especially running.  I usually do them right after work.  Once in awhile in the morning or at lunch.

Since I have a wife, two kids, and a hectic work schedule, I get my workout in whenever I can. Early morning, lunch, on my way home from work, after the kids go to bed.  I do have to say that I feel best when I get it in before work.
