Ironkids is this weekend and I finally have the bike race ready!  Annika will be running a pink Barbie bike maximized for speed.  Here is a list of features:

  1. We swapped out the stock white knobby tires for some racing slicks from the jogging stroller.
  2. Note the Roctane Pineapple taped to the top tube.  She wanted 5, but I talked her down to 2.  If she eats both of them on the ride she will either puke or wreck.
  3. We opted for the large bento box known as a "flower basket".  This will allow her to carry as many water bottles as she thinks she needs.  The over/under is three.
  4. We added a pink bell to the handle bars.  Nothing says "on your left" like a bell!
  5. The Barbie bike cames with an ingenious air shield over the chain to eliminate unnecessary noise around the drive train.  Look for this on the new Cervelos.
  6. We opted to stick with the pink platform pedals to promote a seamless flying dismount.
  7. The Barbie bike also came with disk covers on the front and back.  The disk covers are mounted on the inside of the spokes to promote maximum air flow diffusion at high speeds (10-12 mph).
  8. The ribbons on the end of the handle bars are purely for decoration.  Wind tunnel testing was inconclusive as to whether they aided stabilization during high speed cornering.
  9. She will be relying heavily on these aero advantages since the bike weighs 22.5 lbs!

Very cute! I'm glad to see the matching helmet. You can't rock that look unless the helmet matches too! She should also load up the bento flower basket with spare tubes and CO2. You never know what can happen out there!

That is toooo cool.  I thought that chain cover was for aerodynamics.  I was thinking of getting one for my bikes.

Is that Saturday morning?  I would like to see it, if I can work it into my conjested life.

My daugter is doing the race as well, it is her first ( she is just turned 12).  I looked all over trying to find her some kind of road bike - her mountain bike is too small and her mothers is 20 years old and has to weigh 60lbs.  So while looking online for "cheap road bike" we found the "Tonino Lamborghini"  That was it!  No matter if it was made of plastic or cement she had to have "The Lambo"

The Lambo does not produce the speed the Dad was looking for, but the smile and the fact that she tells all her friends that she is rockin a Lambo in her first tri is absolutely priceless.....  While we may forego the extended water capacity of the basket, she said she definitely needs a water bottle that will match the red and white Lambo, and looked at me as though I had 2 heads when I offered the blue insulated bottle that I use?

Now I just need to find a place that sells Cowbells......

The Bean will be riding almost the same bike....except hers will have training wheels. I thought about sliding my extra set of Profile aerobars on it and giving her the aero helmet to wear but figured it wouldn't be fair to the other kids .

We should have a good showing out there. FYI  I am doing a transition clinic on Saturday from 12-12:45 at Wills Park and that is followed by a swim clinic at 2pm.

OK, I just figured out this is located at Wills Park, which is only a mile from my house. I think I'll incorporate stopping to watch the races into my Sunday run. I'm expecting a real battle of the barbie bikes and I just gotta see that!

Being that it is Sunday, I probably can't make it but I do have a cowbell you can borrow or have if you really want it.  Hopefully, I can work something out with the siblings.  I would really like to watch that.

I'm ROFL too!  The chicks in the Brown Dog household are lucky to have such a considerate bike mechanic that lives onsight.

Is Annika a Gu Ambassador too just like her Mommy?

Man I am bummed!  My 5 and 6 year old have been 'training' but they just aren't too hot without the training wheels.  OK so the truth is they have both steadfastly refused to try and ride the new bikes daddy got them because they don't have training wheels.  Now I know they could have raced with the training wheels.  Mine are 95th percentile for both height and weight so they would have for sure captured the athena/clyde divisions if not overall.  Both can swim like frogs (their extra weight makes them super bouyant), both can run for like a whole 1/8th a mile (before they stop to pick flowers, lay in the grass etc) and both love to crash their bikes into each other at great speed (with training wheels on of course).  Hmmm...I guess there is always next year..Mine with be the two with the handpainted Cervelo name over the huffy...

Good luck to all our future BT'ers....

Cowbells have been secured, Yanks that are a perfect match to the shoes, and a race belt -- all as I was instructed.  Daddy has done his part, now the only thing left is to be completely over the top with the cowbells, signs and perhaps costumes....

She wants to switch from Roctane to Chomps and she wants stickers for her helmet.

I'm just hoping she doesn't want a tat on her calf that has the Ironkids logo....

We are checking for a ban substance list now...... She is going sour skittles and sour patch kids for their proven energy enhancement effect on those that can tolerate eating them......
