...don't mix, I know.

So how much time do you think I'll need to take off from biking after the "procedure?"

Take a couple of weeks off and you will be fine...maybe a bit more time for running. You can swim as soon as the wound heals.

I'm not sure I'd have wanted to be on a saddle that quick.  It has been a few years, though. Basically, the recovery is the same as taking a hit on the boys.  With a sledgehammer.

I waited two weeks to get back in the saddle, then kept the rides short and stayed out of my aero bars. Anothe couple weeks and I was back full swing. Mostly goes by how you feel. Invest in multiple bags of peas and you may want to get one of those chepo gel seat pads from Walmart for the first few rides.

That or take a couple Vicodin prior to the ride JK!!

Great...thanks guys...I'm going under the knife after my tri in September, and I'm feeling REALLY wonderful about it right now *dripping sarcasm.*  Peas?  Hit in the boys with a sledgehammer?  Jumping jeezus on a pogo stick.

The peas work nice because they can be molded to the nether region while still be frozen. I would take a couple bags of peas as quickly as I would take pain killers.

Oh, BTW......
Not to try and scare you but, make sure they do a good job numbing you. I was fine for the incision but when the went to cauderize(sp?) the tubes, they use a little electric thing. Talk about a tickle in the wrong place, I about came off the table!!

As long as you take it easy the first 3-4 days, you should be goo in 7-10 to ride or run.

I took my daughter to a baseball game on day three and jsut the walking to and from the ballpark set me back a few days.

Two thinks to make sure you have-frozen peas and a jock strap.

7-10 day recovery?!

Nothing compared to recovery of childbirth! And then you have the kid to deal with too! (being sarcastic)

Heard a comedian do a funny bit about this the other night...went something like this:  "You ever notice, when it comes to pain, women always break out the childbirth argument?  They go on and on about how bad the pain is, yet many women have multiple kids.  Meanwhile, men typically only get their johnson caught in their zipper ONCE!  Logic says one is more painful than the other."

Yeah, 7-10 days is about right. Interesting to read about others' experiences. Mine was pretty painless and I had no problem walking around the day after. Then again I had the "no scalpel" procedure which only requires a small hole poked in your sack as opposed to an incision. The boys will turn a nice black and blue, which may look a bit scary, but nothing to worry about.

Actually, running is a bigger problem than biking.  Things don't get bumped around so much.  Not sure how much "support" you typically have on your runs, but you'll definitely want a good bit afterwards.  Bouncing and jostling is the really, really uncomfortable part afterwards.

Does anyone know the two most popular days are for this surgery (according to my snip doctor)?

1.) The Friday of the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament.

2.) The Friday of the Masters.

BTW, this procedure is no big deal.

Did the no scapal as well, no big deal, I sent the wife and kids to the in laws for a couple days though which made it easier. Played volleyball the next Wednesday after the friday procedure. Jumping and lnading wasn't too badd just felt like a grazed nut as opposed to a full on yank.

take you time and you will be the best judge. Welcome to the club. The tie colour is......

Definitely take your time before getting to crazy. I waited eight days to run and that was about right.

I did make a huge mistake the sixth day at work, slid down a fire pole on my way to a call. My feet hit the ground and stopped, painfully my boys did not, felt like a drop kick to the boys.

Good luck

This reminds me of what my (non-medical) friend wondered after I had it done. He thought it was like taking the dog to get fixed, and that now the boys were gone for good! (I probably shouldn't have let him keep thinking that for so long...)

Yes everything still works, just that the "swimmers" are out of the water. By the way, I also have a small hard spot where the tubes are cut. Asked another guy and he said he got his done a few years ago and still has the little hard spot too.

Everything works perfectly. In a way, things work somewhat "better" because there is no longer the worry that the swimmers will get the gold medal, if you know what I mean. (An appropriate Olympic reference). You'll still produce and release fluid, because that stuff is made in a separate factory. Actually, you still produce swimmers, but they have no place to go, so they just die and get absorbed by the body. I read that initially some guys experience swelling because there is a backlog of swimmers as the body adapts to absorbing and disposing of them, but this is generally not a big deal.

I'm really liking the "cycle obessively so I become infertile" approach, but my wife doesn't buy it.

Sounds like a great thing to do in, say, early October. Enjoy the perfect September weather, then settle in for a couple weeks of football 5 nights a week.
