Subject: RE: Can Someone Explain Silk Sheets. Here's the lowdown - You can start from Cochran Mill Park off Cochran Mill Road, near Fulton Industrial. 6875 Cochran Mill Road, Palmetto, GA 30268 (map) The "silk sheets" bike route is located in South Fulton County. It is a nice area with rolling hills and little traffic. There are several route options, including a 20.4 mile route and a 31.5 mile route. There is a gas station at the point where the two routes split, and then there is also a fire station on the 31.5 mile route where you can stop if needed. There aren't really any other places on the route to stop like gas stations, so you need to be prepared with what you need. (Maybe if you know the area, there are other places, but I haven't strayed off the route). There aren't any big climbs, it's true rolling hills and there is a decent shoulder on most of the roads. My experience out there is limited to Sunday mornings, but I can tell you that last week I started at 9AM and we finished after 2PM. All of the drivers were really nice to us and give us lots of room as they passed. I never got 'buzzed'. You are on two lane roads in most parts, sometimes one lane roads. It's not like a bike path, but I feel pretty comfortable riding on the road. There may be more cyclists out on Saturday, because on Sunday mornings, I see a few groups of them, but not a ton. Of course, the season is winding down, so that might be part of it.
I have a map of the routes with a cue sheet that I would be glad to email you, just send me your email address. Edited by atlrunnergirl 2008-10-12 1:49 PM
