Subject: Replaced Crank and shifting issues

Using this as a learning experience, but I purchased a crankset for my wifes bike and accidently got her into a larger crankset (more teeth on each ring).  The outter ring is larger which required me to shift the FD up.  I am now noticing it almost impossible to shift on the crank.  The lever and the derailuer move, but it doesnt quite push the chain up to the outter ring.

Is this something that is easily explained that I could be missing, or would I be best taking it into the LBS to get it working properly?

First, make sure you moved it up the appropriate amount.  There should be 1-2mm (about a penny's thickness) between the tops of the teeth on the big ring and the bottom of the derailleur.

You might also need to move the high limit stop out a bit, if it happens that the spacing between the rings is a bit wider than it was on your old crank.

The Park Tools website has some pretty good instructions with pictures.

Have you tried adjusting the upper limit screw? A great site for advice and detailed directions.

probably the limit screw. I'd guess the shifter is basically trying to compress the screw or the butt. Read the FD adjusting/setup drill on parktool.com if you haven't already.
