Pre-race routine:

2 mini bagels w/ PB; cup of coffee 3.5 h prior to start
Gel 20 minutes prior to start

Arrived at site 1 hour before start, walked around to see if I could find Captain Rob. No luck after about 10 minutes so went back to car to stay warm. It was cold and windy. Fortunately no rain.
Event warmup:

About 20 minutes before start walked around a little, stretched, tried to figure out what to wear given the temperature and wind. Stomach felt very empty (should've had more solids ~1 1/2 h before race) took gel/water. Opted for shorts, moisture wicking long sleeve jersey and a Dri fit lightweight long sleeve, baseball cap and gloves.

Comments:

Very happy with my performance overall. Typical for me started first mile slow but quickly got into rhythm.

At 4 1/2 miles saw the leaders coming back toward us. Man those guys/gals make it look easy, effortless. It's like they're floating over the ground.

Felt great until around 8 miles (once entered back into park) when I started to feel the effects of what was likely a little too fast pace, not enough fluid for amount I was losing, through the first 8 miles. In park we entered woods which blocked wind that had been keeping me and my 2 shirts cool. While I didn't get a split for miles 8 and 9 I could feel I had started slowing.

Splits:
Mile 1: 9:13
Mile 2: 8:18
Mile 3: 8:19
Mile 4: 8:10
Mile 5: 8:14 (Gel + ~5oz water slowly)
Miles 6&7: 16:38 for 2 miles, missed the 6 mile marker
Miles 8&9: 17:07 for 2 miles, missed the 8 mile marker
Mile 10: 8:30

Wore my Fuel Belt so that I would have Acclerade which I know I tolerate as well as flask of water for gel. Despite having this didn't drink enough (5 oz Acclerade and 5 oz water).
What would you do differently?:

Drink more! At around 7 miles wasn't sure if my stomach would tolerate more Accelerade so stopped drinking.

Go with only 1 shirt on top and/or ditch the hat. Wearing the baseball cap (which I seldom do) helped me retain heat so having 2nd shirt was probably a little too much and kept me a little too warm. Was drenched when I finished.

Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for about 10 minutes, recovery drink, stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I had set a goal of breaking 1:25:00 for this race and did so. There were certainly learnings that I can use for future races but very satistied with my peformance.
