I shaved 10 seconds off my swimming 100 yd sprint time!

And had a great 100 yd average for the whole workout!

I had my longest run of the year, 17 miles, during the hottest part of the day (2:30 p.m.).   I did 7 miles at target marathon HR (upper Z3) and averaged 7:27/mi, which ironically is BQ pace or a 3:15 marathon.  Freakishly good long run.

I met and exceeded my 2008 5K race goal by running under 8:00 min/Mile pace. Finished with a 7:39 pace. Last race was 8:02 pace three weeks ago. Wrapped it up at the local gym pool with 1300 m total swim.

I had a 2 hour zone 2 ride with 2 - 7 min intervals...and I did those...BUT, the rest of the ride I loafed it and chatted and generally didn't give a sheet...GOOD when you aren't training for any thing

I completed it instead of being lazy and skipping it which is what I felt like doing.  It pretty much sucked, my legs felt like dead weight.  But I went fishing all day before my run, and that was fun.

... I placed top 15 in my race (a tri changed to a du because of surf conditions) even without a whole lot of bike or run training in the last few months ...... and zero speedwork to speak of!

After 39 miles on the bike I did a 3.8 mile run.  My legs felt fresh and I kept up a good pace without a struggle.

I rode the course for next week's sprint to plan strategy.  Now I'm pumped, because this is a different course from years past, and it's pretty much all hills.  I've been riding hills all year, so I'm ready, but hoping that others are not.

I rode up to Grand Haven and did 5 Mile Hill 5 times on a beautiful morning: my last big ride before my first century in a few weeks. It's so nice to be on the road instead of the trainer.

  • Great weather, temps in the 60s to start with just enough breeze to provide cooling when the sun came out.
  • New pair of Asics 2130s!
  • Great tunes on podcast: 'Mats on Coverville and Devotchka live in the studio on Morning Becomes Eclectic.
  • Longest run (9.30 miles) in 20 months.

Great day to be a runner!
