Fees Increase Wed: Anthem Sprint Sept 5

Thanks for posting this. I'm planning on racing it!

Even though I took 8 weeks off I plan on racing in this one too. This was my very first race last year and I am looking forward to haveing before and after photo's.

Who all is doing this one?

this was my first tri as well. I think it was dean and kim's first too. The good news is that it starts at 730 Am instead of 5 pm.

I'm so sorry to hear that the Rotors are not going to be there.

Why are you trying for a relay Kim? I know your fast enough to handle a Sprint all yourself.

I'm excited about the early start instead of the night start we had last year. And this year I will not be Auqa Jogging and hopefully not kicking anyone in the face again.

We're already paying $200 to US Airways to ship Dean's bike up there, and I didn't want to pay another $200 just so I could compete, too. We're getting in too late on Friday for me to rent a bike for Saturday. So I thought a relay would be fun. But although I've posted to both the Minnesota and Wisconsin forums (the race is in Northern Wisconsin, about 45 minutes from Minneapolis), no one has taken me up on the offer.  I guess I'll just have to take pictures and smell the pig roast from the sidelines. 

I'm registered.  First race since Tempe International and first time doing a reverse, first time racing on my new bike.  I'm hoping to shave quite a few minutes off my tempe intl. time!  Will those of you racing in this use your tri gear in the pool?

Do you mean will we jump into the pool in our tri gear?  Yep. That's why it's tri gear. You can go from swim to bike to run without ever having to change your clothes.  Or in this case...run to bike to swim.  I know some guys don't like to swim in their tri top, but really on a sprint there isn't time to be messing with that.  Just get your bike gear off, grab your goggles and RUN to the pool! :-)
Oh and if you have never participated in the UFC/Tapout style of "jump in the pool with whoever gets there at the same time you do and swim down and back in the same lane as everyone else smack down swimming," you should at least try to get your mind wrapped around that concept for this race. :-)

I know it's not a long swim, but I had been advised not to subject tri gear to the chlorine in the pool.  I suppose a 400m swim probably won't disintegrate it though...

Bah! Just rinse it out in cold water afterward and you'll be fine.  No different than having to swim in the pool all the time for training in a swim suit or tri shorts.  As long as you rinse them out in cold water.....no washing machine or soap, they should last a while before the chlorine rot sets in.

I ruined my first pair of tri shorts by training at the pool in them. I only wear them in the pool when racing now.

We wash all of our tri gear in the washing machine using cold water and the Win or Sports Soap detergent. The sports-specific detergent is a little pricey, but it gets out all sweat, chlorine, and other nasty smells. 

We do avoid using the tri gear in chlorinated pools if possible, but that's not always possible and as Tanya said, as long as you rinse the chlorine out and don't let it set, the clothes come through OK.

I am in for the race. I did this one last year, hopefully I can improve my time since it wont be 105 degrees out during the run.

I'll be there too.  THis was my first tri last year and I'm so glad that it'll be in the morning.  Being a newbie last year, I was severly overheated/dehydrated by the end.  I've learned a lot since then.  Hopefully, I've learned enough!

Anthem 2008 was a lot of people's first tri, huh?

Anthem will be my first sprint.... I'm totally psyched! Using it as a warm up for PBR Offroad...

Since it's my first sprint I'll apologize in advance. lol.

Last year they only had one water station at the halfway point. I would suggest running with a water bottle. Even if you throw it out on the course at least you will have one for the first 1.5 miles.

Something else from last year. The signs that were used for the bike course were so close to the curb that several people actually hit them. Be prepared for that.

And finally, the swim was an all out battle royal. Expect to have to fight for your lane. I'm actually looking forward to that this year. Last year I kicked JavaMom on the swim.

Oh yeah, I hit one of those "Keep Left" signs last year. It cracked my STI shifter. Hmm, I've hit a few signs in the last 12 months.
