Subject: Buy a tri bike online.. good or bad idea?

I am moving to Australia and bike prices are crazy expensive.  I toyed with the idea of buying in Canada and shipping.  People have swayed me away from that because of shipping costs.  Now I am looking online and shopping around for price.

This will be my very first road / tri bike ever... I have heard that you need to be fitted.  Is buying online a bad idea... I won't be fitted.  I am sure I would be able to bring it into a store to be fitted after buying online right?  Or do I have to buy the bike that fits me???  I'm confused.

 Thanks.

^^^Tom makes many very good points and really knows what he is talking about.

That being said, buying a bike online without the help of a fitter is possible. Inorder to do it and not find yourself in a situation where your bike doesnot fit you really need to do alot of research and looking around.

I've had great luck buying things online, but I did have a good fitting bike to start from and was able to traslate a good fit from one bike to another. since this will be your first I think that I have to agree with tom and say that you will be much better off seeking professional help on this one.

Good luck.

Hey!  I just bought my first road bike online from a company called Fezzari and I LOVE it....It's the Catania Triple.  They guys on the phone are really helpful and will ask you a ton of questions.  My bike came in the mail mostly assembled and fits me great!  I would definitely recommend checking them out.

I'll be doing my first tri on in a few weeks so I can report more after that but training has been sooo much fun and I'm so much faster on my Fezzari than my Gary Fisher Mtn bike!

 Good luck!

Just bought my son a P2C online. Price was great, and LBS was real nice about assembly and fit, and bought accessories from them.

The only problem I had was after talking to salesman and making sale I could never get a return phone call. Thought It was just me and tried to order another bike for myself from the same shop. After 1 day of waiting for a return call, decided to try R&A Cycles.

Will see what happens. I might just be impatient.
