I just completed my first tri season with three sprints.  Now I am going into my first off-season and I would like to start the off-season with tests that I can measure against over the next few months.  I also just started reading The Triathletes Training Bible where he lists a bunch of different tests.  The problem is that i don't have an indoor cycling trainer or anyone to come and record heart rates and paces.  what would be a good test or two in each sport that I can do on my own and repeat every few weeks to check progress?

The only tests i have done are a 2k rollerblade circuit around my neighbourhood!

May 2008 i ran it 5:31 - 5:30 - 5:47 ...... in one night.

August 2008 i ran it 5:02 - 5:14 - 5:21.....

You need an HRM.

Check this out...

It has testing you might want to do.  In fact, all the articles they have are worth a read if you are into HR training.

Swim:  Time trial.  I suggest either 500m/y or 1000m/y depending on where you're at simming-wise

Run:  5k race.  Usually easy to find one of these somewhere nearby almost every month.

Bike:  Time trial.  Since you don't have a trainer, find a route of ~10mi that doesn't have any/many stops.  Flat & straight out-and-back would be ideal.  Would be nice to have power since conditions can affect speed quite a bit, but just try to note if the wind was unusually strong or something.
