I was watching the Vuelta yesterday and the announcer was explaining how one rider was countersteering-- turning the fork to the left while leaning right. I can't get my head around it exactly. How does one practice this? Can you do this while in aero?

In motorcycling classes (should be similar for bicycles)  the best explanation was to "press" on the left handlebar to turn left while NOT turning the handlebars to the left.  This in effect is the lean left and turn right in order to go left.

So when you want to turn right, "press" right instead of "turning" right.

Makes the most sense when you go out and try it a few times.

You probably already do it, but it is intuitive.

You tend to countersteer when going moderate to high speed.  Low speed, you just steer.

It names something, most of us do, already.

Also some great info on it available on sheldon brown's site, if I remember correctly.

And everyone on 2 wheels does it, every time they ride in anything other than a straight line.
