I need to get some open water practice as well as some hill training with Pumpkinman coming up, so I plan to head up to the lake on Saturday.  If you're interested in meeting, the best place is the north end of the four lane boat ramp parking lot (this is the North entrance of the park - the second entrance along Castle Hot Springs Road).  I plan to be there at 6:45 and in the water by 7:00.  After a 30-45 minute swim, we can do the 20 mile Tribal course loop.  Anyone interested?

Don't worry about that, Chris!  No one gets dropped on the ride - everyone waits at the turns for the group to catch up.  I just hope not to get dropped on the swim!

I would feel bad having everyone sit around waiting for my fat _ss to get up those hills.  Just tell me what the course is and I'll make it   Thanks though, I really appreciate the support.

As for swimming...Since the repurcussions of "not making it" are a bit bigger than on a bike, I like the idea of hanging together.

I want to come to this, but I'm not sure where this second entrance is. Can anyone post a map or maybe carpool/caravan??

Here are some directions and information I posted for the last training session.  Let me know if you have any other questions!

We will meet at the north end of the parking lot by the four lane boat ramp at Lake Pleasant at 6:45am.  To get there, take Rt. 74 West (Carefree Highway), which can be accessed from either I-17 or Lake Pleasant Rd., to Castle Hot Springs Rd.   Take a right on Castle Hot Springs.  Castle Hot Springs meets a T-intersection stop sign where you take a right on Castle Creek Dr.  This is PAST the first entrance to the park (pass Lake Pleasant access Rd.).  You will see a guard shack where you pay park admission ($5).  Proceed past the guard shack and continue on the winding road into the parking lot.  We will do a 30-45 minute open water swim by the north end of the lot.

After the swim, we will ride the Tribal Sprint course and return to the parking lot where we started.  At each intersection, the riders in the front will wait for everyone to catch up so no one gets lost or misdirected (no drop).  The course leaves the parking lot, returns along Castle Creek Dr. and turns left at the guard shack at Castle Hot Springs Road.  We will make a left at the main entrance to the park on Lake Pleasant Access Rd./North Park Rd.  At South Park Rd., we turn right and continue to a turnaround at Overlook Rd.  When we return to North Park Rd., we take a right.  We'll continue along the ridge making a right onto Peninsula Rd. and down a healthy downhill by Scorpion Bay Marina to another turnaround on Operations Center Rd.  We'll then return up the hill and back along Lake Pleasant Access Rd./North Park Drive.  We'll continue onto Castle Hot Springs Rd., onto Castle Creek Dr. and back to the parking lot where we started.  I know this may sound confusing, but it's much simpler when you are there - and we'll make sure that no one is left behind.

I have also included a link to the park maps below if you want to make the written directions make more sense.  The Lake Pleasant Regional Park 3D map is the most thorough on the list.

I think it's high time you change some days around.  Thursday nights are starting to get to dark to soon.  So you need some OWS time with a brick.  I'm just saying!

Saturday my plan calls for a 2,000M straight swim and a 75 minute run. I can't switch to bike on Saturday because Sunday calls for a 120 minute bike and a 30 minute run. I could probably make it if there is somebody that wanted to run for 75 minutes with me at about 9min/mile pace. Is the road flat or does it have a lot of hills?

You could just swap the 75min run with the bike ride and on Sunday just do a 105 min run! Wink

I could but I don't want to run 11.5 miles on Sunday. I know I'll end up covering about that distance between Saturday and Sunday anyways but I'm still working on building volume and the furthest I've ran since having two surgeries this year is 8 miles. I don't want to over do anything and jeopardize the following week of training or risk injury.

Yeah, I assumed so. I didn't take your comment personally, sorry if it seemed that way. I'd like to get out and do 2,000M in OW and meet some more of you but with grad school and everything else I've got going on I don't want to play around too much with my training schedule. I'll see if I can make it and maybe somebody would want to run with me. If not, I'll keep an eye out for another training opportunity.

Off to hit the books!

Crap, what did I sign up for.  I grew up in New Orleans and moved to Phoenix. I'm not really experienced with hills.  This will be interesting.
