Subject: Can hubby and wife share an HRM?

I'm hoping to have a few bucks in the next few months to purchase an HRM and a bike computer.  Will hubby and I each have to get our own, or can these things be shared?   Obviously I know we can't both use it at the same time, but if I use it today, can he use it tomorrow?   Can you split the data by user?   I really don't know much about them and am a bit overwhelmed at trying to figure out which one would be best for me, so any and all suggestions are welcome!

 Thanks!

There might be models that have multiple user data, but I am not aware of them.  Generally, the HRM stores user set data regarding max HR or zones, or sets zones and max HR based on user set data regarding age, weight, and gender.

I'm not aware of any that allow you to enter more than one users data (max HR, zones, weight etc.) but you don't really need any of these.  As long as you know what your own zones are then you just keep your HR within them, you don't really need a computer to tell you!

One thing to note though is that a bike computer needs to be set to a specific wheel size.  If you both have the same then it's not a problem, if not then you will need to change the settings otherwise speed and distance readouts would be inaccurate.  Polar computers allow you to set up the unit for two bikes.  If your wheels are the same circumference then this is obviously not a problem.

Garmin lets you create advanced workouts with custom heart rate target ranges.  You could use a set of these for each of you as a guide while working out and then analyze separately later.

 eg:

 Hubby - Strides

 Hubby - LSD

 Hubby - Tempo

 Wifey - Strides

 Wifey - LSD

 Wifey - Tempo

Sure, but you'll have to decide who gets to wear it when you work out together

My Polar had settings for a second person (not that we ever used that capability) and my Nike is flexible enough that we could if we wanted to.

It can be frustrating to realize mid-workout that you're on the wrong setting.
