Decided to volunteer after watching a few videos and hearing about it on BT. It's a few hours away, and was going to be in Dayton that weekend anyways, so I figured what the heck, and I would love to try and tackle it next year in 2010. They notified me and told me what I would be doing and I responded, just figured I would never hear from them again. Have gotten emails stating exactly what I would be doing, offered me up a chance for places to stay for free and or cheap, how to cut costs, where to ride if I wanted to experience it, chances to hang out with the team, words of encouragement, pretty much a 2 page email, also help with fund raising for a local charity that I help and then even gave me the job of jotting down all the people that make it up the Westernports wall so I could get the full expierance. Dunno if that is how other are treated when they volunteer, but every time I've done anything to help or volunteer to help out I usually get an email, the equivalent of a Tweet if i'm lucky! Never volunteered for a tri event though. Really, just wanted to have a weekend out of town and see something cool, now I really wanna help them out for this event as possible. They seem very, very passionate about the event, and what they want it to be in the future. Pretty pumped up about it now.

Awesome! thank you very much for volunteering your time. I did the Savageman last year and am doing it again this year, all the support staff are great. The race is very well run, there is always plenty of information to reduce any anxiety that you have on race morning and lots of stuff going on during the race for family and friends to do. The swim/bike/run courses are the best, especially the swim, last year it was so clear, I navigated my swim mostly by the contour of the bottom of the lake. Thanks again for your time, you won't be dissapointed.

Having done the race myself, I am not at all surprised to hear of this level of coordination.  Their forums on the race website, at least when I was doing it = instant access to race director and support crew.  We were in talks about road conditions, dogs on the course during training, techniques for the westernport wall, etc.

Has anyone who is signed up for this year received any kind of email or newsletter or anything of the sort from the race committee? It sounds like the volunteers have all the information they can handle. However, as an athlete I have not received word one. Not even a reminder that the event is approaching! Just wondering...

I received an email from the race organizers this morning. If you still have not received yours, PM me and I'll forward it to you.
