And for the first time I've just run it

Not the fastest time in the world 1hr 12mins but even so I'm chuffed about it.

I've been going out and hitting anywhere up to 8k recently but have always either ran out of light or had cramps etc.

So yesterday I set myself a goal at lunch and went out and hit the streets. 1hr 12 mins later I was back home after jogging (not running) non stop for 10Km. My knees hurt a little and my right glute is complaining but  milestones are milestones and this is another one crossed off.

I'm also pleased that I've actually completed the distance before by XTerrain Oly Tri in 2 1/2 weeks, as it was always a concern in the back of my mind whether I could make the finish line without stopping (always a target for me).

Anyone else hit any running milestones?

congrats! milestones are a great way to measure your success. Your blood and sweat get you there. Keep it going and you'll be knocking down many more milestones.

You actually went a little farther.  10 km is 6.21371192237334 miles.  Don't shortchange yourself those last 19.5989 feet.

It's a great feeling!  I remember signing up for the HIM in 2006 and thinking how I was going to be able to run 13.1 miles when the longest I did was probably 7 miles or so up to that point.  3 months later I did 13.34 miles.

Now don't go out too hard on the bike!

(for those that are wondering, "chuffed" is British slang for excited )

Mentally, that's a wonderful thing to fall back on. In the race, during those moments when you desperately want to walk, you can keep telling yourself 'I've done it before, there's no reason I can't do it now.'
