Subject: clothing for training?
I'll start off by saying that I'm currently doing swims indoor, so I don't need a wet-suit(yet).

I just did my first sprint about a little while ago and and now looking to get more into the sport....I ran my first tri in just a bathing suit the whole time, and am looking to buy some clothing.

I have about a $250-300 and am not really sure what to buy...Should I buy both cycling and running clothing? Outside of running shoes and clipless pedals I have absolutely nothing, and have been running/cycling in a cotton T.

Also, with winter coming up should I look into anything specific?

For your next tri, I'd get tri shorts.  You can do the whole race in them and they'll probably be more comfortable on the bike than your bathing suit.  A tri top might be a good idea too, unless you're going shirtless (but some races don't allow that).

If you're in the DC area, I'd invest in some winter cycling clothing if you plan on cycling outside.  Maybe someone who lives in a cold area can chime in on that.

There's nothing wrong with cycling/running in cotton if it works for you.  I prefer cycling jerseys because they hold less moisture, have pockets for my stuff, and come in bright colors (I think visibility is a good thing).  I would invest in cycling shorts if you plan on doing long rides, since chafing is one of the last things you want to deal with when you're out riding.  Running shorts might be a good idea, since they tend to be lighter and more comfortable for running than other kinds of shorts.

I agree with the tri shorts comment.
As far as cotton anything, in the heat, it holds the sweat, and sticks to your skin. In the cold, it holds the sweat and makes you colder. I would invest in a few tech shirts, and running shorts. In my experience (been running for a long time) the expensive and shorts are just as good as the Champion/C9 stuff you can get at Target or Marshalls, just half the price!

PS, for winter, try to dress in layers, so if you get hot you can just remove 1 layer.

x2 on the inexpensive tech/dri-fit shirts. I've bought almost all of mine at Kohls during their sales when you can get them for ~$10 each. Exactly the same comfort and fit as the $40+ Nike/Brand name ones at least from my experience.

For inexpensive tri shorts you can check out previous reviews here on the shorts from Performance cycle.

I would invest in a nice pair of bike shorts for training. You can find some decent ones at Target and Performance Bike pretty cheap.
