Subject: Aerobars
Hello, new to triathlon this year and loving the challenges.  It seems to me that aerobars really do make a difference.  I purchased a Trek 2.3 road bike this summer and figured I could always add areobars later.  In the last couple of races, I'm pushing pretty hard averaging 19-20 mph and dudes are flying past me with tribikes like I'm standing still.  I think a inexpensive set cost around $70-90.

Thoughts and experiences with aerobars added to roadbikes?

Cheers!

For a road bike I would get a pair of jammers (short aero bars where you can place the elbow pads further back to retain decent balance).

Profile Design Jammers are good, or Vision Tech Shortie bars.

I have a pair of Profile Design Carbon Stryke clipons on my road bike and I love them.  I am so much more comfortable in aero than any other position on the bike.  And for a beginner, like me, comfort is paramount.  Could you be more comfortable on a tri bike?  Probably, but for $40 - $100, aerobars are a lot cheaper.  If you stick with the sport and want to take it to the next level and get a tri bike that's great, but I don't plan on buying a tri bike until I stick with it for at least 2 full seasons.

Pick up some aerobars from the classified section here on BT... that's where I got mine.

Profile T2+ aerobars. I have them and enjoy them!

Don't forget, aero bars don't make you aero, the aero position does. To get a good benefit (if any at all), you should consider getting fitted after putting the clip ons on. I got a new stem and new seatpost when I did my clip on fitting in order to make my position correct. Comfort and efficiency.
