Ate some waffles and walked to race site, about 1 mile away from the house

Comments:

There weren't a ton of runners, probably around 100. And obviously it wasn't the deepest/most talented field--afterall, it was a fun run. Anyway, the gun went off and I was chasing the cop pace car, and to my surprise, found myself all by myself. I was leading the damn race! At the turn around I got a glimpse of those in pursuit, and was able to hang on to the lead to win 1st place overall. I felt a little silly because I'm not a fast runner, but it was still cool.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little harder on such a short distance. I had a bit more left in me.

Drank some water, basked in the glow of winning, and walked home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Staying up too late the night before with friends

I'm relatively new to Dallas and have heard of Deep Ellum, but never been there.

You should make your way down there one day. Especially if you like live music. Gypsy Tea Room is probably the best known venue there.

By the way may I suggest Trees as a venue to check out. A little bit more cozy than Gypsy Tea Room.
