Subject: RE: YMCA Sprint Triathlon - Wakefield, Lake QuannapowittThe lake has been cleared from the board of health to swim in. The certificate from the health board has been around....people are braving the temps and swimming in it now. It is the first year of this triathlon. It'll be great for $30! You guys should show up! The Planning Committee is hoping that it'll get really huge in the years to come. This year the Planning Committee isn't expecting more than 150 racers since they are slow on getting out the advertising. As of now, they aren't sure about how much "real food" we'll have afterwards beyond the standard fruit and bagels. The Italian Ice guy and hot dog vendor there are being looked at for providing free food for the racers (spectators have to pay). You don't even need to look around to see that with a marked course, blocked-off parking around the side of the lake where you may get "door prized", tech shirts, water/gatorade stops, guarded transition area for athletes only that this is a great value. A bounce house for the kids will be there too. They'll also have a raffle and the YMCA is really big on Red Sox tickets (and Celtics & Bruins when they were still playing). Parking will be easy and close. Oh and one KICK BAGPIPE PLAYER is scheduled to be there too! There are two multiple Ironman finishers now helping plan the event, so if anyone knows what makes an event great for athletes, they are there to put their 2 cents in. But it's a $30 event! Grassroots fun and a great place to spend time hanging out with friends afterwards......it's not short-course Timberman, but it's not $85 for a sub 2 hour-long race either. Hope to see KevinG and whoever else was planning on coming out! |
