Subject: Any runing route tips for Old Town Alexandria?

I'm leaving tomorrow a.m. and stuck at the Embassy Suites in Old Town all week (10/14-10/17).  Was thinking of one day going in to run around the monuments, but was curious if there is any hidden gem in or around Old Town, assuming I can get there rather easily.

for point of reference, I'm staying right across the street from the Patent Office and the Kings St. (?) Metro station.

any tips welcomed - then again, anyone looking for a running partner - shoot me a pm.

You are at the opposite end of old town from the Mt. Vernon trail which will take you up to Memorial bridge and best way to run around monuments and such, not sure how far it is really from there via King street to get all the way down to the water, takes forever in the car because of traffic and lights.

Tons and tons of neighborhood streets in old town probably nice to run.

How far are you looking to run?

Hitting the hotel gym this afternoon, but when I do get my pasty white bones outside, looking for 3-5 mile range...

I just mapped it out and it is about 1 mile from where you are staying ( I used to work right there) to get down to the waterfront, once there take a left on union and you will run into the Mt. Vernon trail which you can take for quite a ways.  For 3-5 miles you might just be able to run to the water and on the path near the river before you even get to the real trail and make a u-turn to get your miles in.

It is all downhill to the water and pancake flat once you turn left or right on union.

^^ I agree.

Run to the water, run down King Street. Thats about all you can do for that distance. Its too far to run up Mt. Vernon trail to the monuments.

If you have a car you can drive up GW parkway and park right North of the airport at the park parking lot. Hit the trail head there and run to the monuments.

Or since you are at the king street metro.. take it over to Arlington cemetery and the run across the memorial bridge past reflecting pool, wash monument, along the mall towards capital and back

That would work also, it's a really nice run over the memorial bridge and past the monuments, thats the run I do at lunch.
