Subject: IM on HIM fitness
Talk to me about your results doing a IM on HIM fitness. 

Thinking about making a HIM my A race in Sept next year, then doing a late fall IM as a B race.

Sounds like it would work, but I think you will need to do the HIM on IM fitness instead of the other way around.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster. The difference between IM and HIM training especially on the long workouts is pretty significant.

If your long runs, bikes and swims are HIM distance I suspect an IM would be a long and hard day.

No reason you can't train for your IM and have the HIM be an A race that you taper and recover afterwards if it allows you to get enough training in between the HIM and IM.

Thanks Doug and Kathy.  After seeing "Ironman as a B race" in print and thinking about it last night (and getting advice from friends), I think I will wait a year.  I've already done one and don't need to rush into another if I'm not ready to fully mentally commit to it.

Do the HIM on IM fitness.  It is what I did this year, works as a nice long workout day, is fun, test that pacing and nutrition, transitions etc.
