Ok - its been 2 weeks since IMC. Legs feel ok, but not great. I've done some light swimming and light running. Did a 5k over the weekend and two days later I'm still in pain. When do I get my energy and muscle back. This is very frustrating. I have a marathon in early Dec and I'm not sure I'll be ready at this pace.

Do you mean you RACED a 5k, or that you just ran 5k?

I'm sure everybody is different, but (having done IMKY myself two weeks ago), I wouldn't RACE a 5K right now.  I'm getting my running legs back, but not for racing.

I haven't run since IMC and won't for another 2 weeks.

After IM Lake Placid I tried training for 2 months after wards and felt crappy consistently. Finally I took a month off and when I started back I was good.

Seems like you need some more recovery time..if you keep pushing things I suspect your recovery will just take longer.

Any kind of running is not a recovery workout in my opinion.  I did IM Lou 2 weeks ago and only this week (3rd week) started running.  I did nothing the first week after.  2nd week swimming and easy cycling.  This week, 3rd week, easy short runs + normal cycling and swimming.  By Satuday, beginning of 4th week, I be back to normal running.

I did a first IM in 8/09 and it took about 1 month before I was gtg.  I have a marathon in January and am slowly building up the run (long run + 10 minutes per week). So at 6 weeks after the IM my long run is 9 miles and my short runs are 5-6 miles.  So I am up to 25 + miles a week now.  Next week 10 miles long and 28 miles for that week.  Ya first 2-3 weeks just suck.  Bike and swim, walk, eaaaassssy on any running unless you have a lot of years at the IM/Mary level of fitness. And then well you know what to do.

I also did IMKY 2 weeks ago, felt good after the race and did a half marathon 1 week after the race and PR'd it. I was suprised how well I ran so I guess there is no perfect answer.

I raced a CAT 5 race the weekend after IMKY this year.  I felt fine but I realized right away that I just didn't have the top end stuff (based on the toll the IM took) that you need for a road race.  I am racing a 1/2 Mary next weekend and am looking to PR as well.  I haven't done a whole lot since the race finished... bike ride here and there, run once a week or so, no pool time... I figure I'll be back into a normal training schedule pretty soon.

Recovery is really different for everyone and probably varies even more when you think about what kind of effort you put in during the race...

Hope you get back to it soon.  I'm just guessing but I would imagine that you will be fine by Dec.  I would just be careful not too rush it.  You'll do a lot more damage by pushing it rather than sitting back and taking a little time to recover if necessary.
