Boulder
Subject: Calling on Boulder/Surrounding Residents for Advice
Hey guys, I currently live in Atlanta, but am relocating to Boulder or one of its surrounding towns after I graduate from GSU this December.  Its been a while since I have been out there, so I am heading back over Thanksgiving break to check out the area, and get a better idea of which neighborhoods I would like to focus on.  Any advice would be MUCH appreciated, and anything that comes to mind will be helpful. I have researched Boulder (of course), Lafeyette, Longmont, and Broomfield. Here are some facts:

1)  I would like a spacious townhouse/apartment/small house with backyard for my dog, but since I am just graduating I can't spend more than like $1k a month on rent.
2)  I am only 24, so a great school district isn't really high on importance.
3)  What IS important is training ground!  I would love close access to trails for running, I already know there is lots of open space for riding, and I am sure I could find a good swim program to join.
4)  I love mountains and open space, but I really don't want to live like in the sticks, because at my age I still want lots of opportunities to meet other ppl. And I have been living in a college setting for several years, so I REALLY don't want to be surrounded by all the loudness and partying from CU students.

Once again, any ideas would be great, and thank you!!

I used to live in Boulder while in grad school. That town is crazy expensive, you're not going to find cheap rent unless you live in a student area. Louisville is nice, Superior is way too windy. Not really familiar with points east. Good luck- IMHO Colorado is the best place in the US to live.

I live in Lafayette which is a great area.  I am about 2 blocks from a great running trail (Coal Creek Trail), have great road riding right out my door and use 24 hour fitness for swimming but there's a great rec center here too.  I like Louisville as well but they seem to think they're Boulder with rents these days, especially being named the top small town in America in July.  I'm right on the bus route into Boulder if I'm going out for a night on the town and don't want to drive as well.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.  But yeah I have also heard that I won't find anything in that price range unless I want to live practically on campus, which I certainly don't see the point in doing.  I have heard good things about both Louisville and Lafayette.  I have relatives that live in the Golden/Lakewood area, and they love it so I might check out there as well.

check out Arvada or Golden... they are about 20 minutes south of Boulder but still have access to mountains, trails, lakes, pools, etc.  without the super high rent. They are about 20 minutes from downtown too, so still close enough to be able to go out.

I live in Arvada and like it.

I agree with the above. I'm in the Arvada/Westminster area and you kind of get the best of both worlds. Not far to either Boulder or Denver. So you can enjoy the LoDo night life and then head to Boulder Rez for a nice open water swim. There are some great trails around town, but also roads that are pretty good for riding.

I rode through old town Louisville today and there were lots of houses for rent.  No idea on the prices but a few of them had signs from Housing Helpers in their yard so you might try that website.
