Extreme Veteran 3177![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: what would you do?You have a strong base from the rest of the season/past years right? If you are worried I would go out, and do it as a pure "fun race" by which I mean do it not to place or even to push yourself. Cruise on the swim, maybe stop and chat with a kayaker for a second just because. Take the bike light and thank all the volunteers you can. If it is a scenic course even take your camera with you in order to stop and snap a few photos? then have a fun run as well. You wont finish first, probably not even FOP but you could still get the race in, have fun, and maybe, just maybe, make a volunteers day by being so nice |

I tried that last season and while my fitness was probably lower than yours for different health issues still I went for it and had a solid race but far from good. I did adjusted my expectations heading inot the race but due to my competitive nature I struggled through the race enjoying myself 100% because for me it is fun when I am pushing as hard as I can, with a low fitness level that was just not possible. I ended up dissapointed to close the season on a low note and that kinda killed my motivation for a while. Looking back I think I would have rather done it as a relay for fun... |

Champion 7233![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: what would you do?haha since we are all athletes here: the health issue was not really training preventing on its own, i hit a rather large bump a few weeks back, jacked my seat into my groin and somehow managed to cut my leg right where it meets my groin, got infected, all that fun. so i had the mother of all saddle sores for a few weeks. running went well, swimming is acceptable. biking has been close ot nil this month. i feel right now, i could have an acceptable swim, slowish bike, and prob PR the run by another few min. right now i am leaning towards racing and seeing where the swim falls, backing off the bike to the lwoer end of my tempo zone, and then trying to clobber the run. i am still sorting out nutrition/pacing on longer events and while the times might not be amazing it would still be practice with that. mentally i am still wanting to race, just sick of full time training for a bit. so unless some fast people are free that weekend, right now i think i will go for it, and it will be fun to race with my dad during his first half! |

For that reason alone, I'd do it, no doubt. |

Ouch I don't think with what you have going on biking would be fun at any effort level for 56 miles. its completely healed now, hence the amount of time off the bike. i think i am going to head out for a long ride either fri or sun and see how things feel. if its ok, i'll do it, and actually race it, if its harder than it should be to hold a reasonable level i am going to go race completely for fun. |
