Subject: Asics gel nimbus 9 or upgrade to Kayano's
Time to buy some new shoes. I have high arches and my ankles are not flexible at all. I run + or - 20 miles per week. I weigh 200 lbs. I have had good luck with Gel Nimbus and was wondering if the Kayano's might be even better.

Technically, the Nimbus is a neutral/cushioning show while the Kayano is a stability shoe. So it's not really an upgrade but a switch to a shoe with a slightly different purpose. I say slightly because the Nimbus does offer some stability.

If you're happy w/ the Nimbus, I would stick with it.  I tried the nimbus but found it broke down pretty quickly.  Super cushy though, huh!

I had the nimbus and was really happy with it until I tried the nike air zoom vomero.  Wow, I can't believe how nice it is, super springy and very cush.  I just picked them up last week and the first run in them felt like I could have easily doubled my mileage.  Happy feet!!!

I suggest not switchnig shoes if you arent having problems. What I also suggest is to go to a real running store and have someone check your feet and stride and offer suggestions for shoes.

Its just like a bike... gotta get that "Fit" done.

Actually, the Nimbus has almost no stability. It's a pure cushioned shoe, meant for heavier underpronators/those with high arches. If you have normal arches and pronate normally, the Nimbus isn't for you. Likewise, if you have high arches and wear the Kayanos, you're asking for trouble.

The 2130 is the only one I felt comfortable running with bare feet.
