Subject: Off season training---

OK my Tri season is over before it began.  My first and only sprint of the season was cancelled.  I know what are my goals...

1)  I want to keep the endurance and conditioning that I developed over the past 8 weeks.

2) I woulod like to stary next season witha sprint and move up to an international before the nd of the season.

I was thinking of the following:

Run swim and bike, once each per week.  With 2 days week weights...

Suggestions????

I leave out the guess work and import my training plans right from this wonderful website....even if you're not a silver or gold member there are good maintenance workouts available.

I'm not sure that once a week will be enough to maintain endurance and conditioning. Is that all the time you have to devote to winter training?

You'd do much better to leave out the weights and run, bike, or swim instead. I agree that once a week isn't enough to maintain your gains.

Agree with The Bear.

Why not check out the Winter Maintenance programs here?  Although I think those programs are a bit excessive.  Modify them to suit your schedule.

Off season i tend to on my weakness more... in the beginning swimming was my weak point..
i swim maybe 5 days, while alternating spinning/running. this off season i'm working on my running.. i'm going to run a few races (1/2 mary, 8k's, 10K's, 5K's) this will keep me interested..

all in all.. i tend to work harder in off season... i like to be in sudo-maintenance mode when race season comes around

The rule of thumb that I was taught for a given discipline:

  • Three workouts per week to improve
  • Two workouts per week to maintain
  • One workout per week just slows the decline.

The off season is when you build your base.  Lots of volume with low intensity. How much you do ties in with your goals:  are you just trying to finish or do you want to compete for a podium spot?
