Subject: Is this a good bike?

I have never heard of this brand?  I am new to road bikes?  Any good?

Ultegra is the best right?  Better than Dura ace and 101?

Don't know anything about that particular bike, but Dura Ace is top of the line, then Ultegra, then 105.

Pinarello is a pretty well-established brand, not some one-off.  As the Q&A indicates, the frame is made in Taiwan, not Italy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing--lots of good frames come from Taiwan.  And Froglegs is right, Ultegra components are quite good, especially at that price point.

Pinarello has an established pedigree in cycling and racing and makes some creme de la creme bikes with 5 figure price tags. Are they 'any good'? No first hand experience, but I'm of the opinion you pay a premium for the brand.

As for components, Shimano's lineup starts with the entry-level Sora, then moves up in price/quality with Tiagra, 105, Ultegra, then Dura Ace. Dura Ace's new groups will come in higher than the current offering and include an electronic shifting feature. It's generally accepted that 105 components are the entry-level for more serious, competetive cyclists.

It depends on your definition of "good". I am replacing my road bike after a crash and was intrigued by a similar, lower-cost fully built Pinarello. They have an impecable brand pedigree and paanche from years of racing in the pro peleton. I was totally enticed by the price.

But, when I looked at the bike in the shop, the wheels were really sub-par. Their MOST house brand stem, seatpost and handle bar left much to be desired and most importantly, the floor bike had a paint bubble which, when I touched it, exploded leaving an unfinished hole in the paint.

I'd look further. You can find lots of good choices near that price point.

FWIW

If you have some time to wait, this bike comes up occasionally on another backcountry site chainlove.com for a pretty good savings. Chainlove, like steepandcheap.com (outdoorsy stuff) and whiskeymilitia.com (snow boarding, etc) feature one item often at a time at crazy discounts. When the item sells out, they move to another item.

The Pinarello comes up from time to time in Ultegra and 105. The last time the ultegra came up it was $1130. The last time the 105 was $949.95. Again, you'd have to wait - and they don't always have every size.  Incidentally, I'm in Utah and have seen the bike in Backcountry's showroom and the bike looks pretty nice. Probably worth the asking price on Backcountry.

There are some tools/utilities/popups available on the chainlove.com website that allow you to watch the current item - and another site gearattack.com has the ability to track it as well.

I've purchased from chainlove and my kids from whiskeymilitia - they ship super fast and we've never been disappointed. No surprises - no bait-and-switch - no factory seconds...

Here are some reviews of Pinarello builds on buzzillions. http://www.buzzillions.com/4294894855_nz_pinarello_reviews?in_dim_search=1

As stated above, Ultegra is in 2nd place behind Dura Ace.
