Hi, anyone planning to do either of these races in Oct? I will be doing the sprint, the swim is less than 500m in Puddingstone Res. Should I bother with a wetsuit?
Thanks,

Well, you'll hear from lots of people...including me...that you should always wear a wetsuit (free speed), but I don't know what your personal considerations would be.  I've done both the BOD and the sprint and wore a wetsuit for both (for the record, I won my AG in the sprint in 2007 and was 3rd in my AG in the BOD last year, so I'm thinking the wetsuit certainly didn't hurt).

I would be doing the BOD again, but I'm starting some minor medical treatments this fall that will shut down my racing until early next year, so sadly missing out.  It's a good event.  Run is partly trails and bike is hilly, but it's a very friendly, local tri.

I guess I better clip on the Jammers to the roadbike and enjoy that lax seat angle on those hills!

I'm planning on doing this tri as well.  Seeing as how the swim is only 300m, I wasn't going to wear my wetsuit, but now I'm second guesing that.  Seemed to me like I would pick up enough speed over the short distance to sacrifice the time it takes to remove the wetsuit.

For those that have run the sprint in the past, do most of the competitors wear suits?

Yes.  A lower percentage than in bigger and longer races, but I think it's fair to say the majority wore them when I did the sprint in 2007 (including surfing wetsuits, that is).

The general rule of thumb is that you can pick up 7-10 sec. per 100 with a wetsuit...so for 300m, that could be 30 seconds...pretty hard to actually lose time on the suit removal with that kind of cushion (unless of course you just don't ever practice taking the thing off...)

I am seriously considering the sprint...I just hate the hills around Bonelli!

Planning on doing either the Sprint or Oly, haven't registered yet...should I register now or will there still be slots day of the race?

(still on the fence about which one to do)

I don't think it sold out the last two years...pretty sure they had race day signup for both distances.  You might just email them to make sure.
