I just saw on DRC Sports that they will be having an inaugural 70.3 triathlon at Amelia Island, FL this Fall. I saw on another site that the schedule date is October 4th, but I have not confirmed that. That is a beautiful area up in N.E. FL right above Jacksonville. I've done a few sprint triathlons at Little Talbot Island that were put on by DRC Sports and they seem to do a pretty good job. The races have been small with less than 300 participants, but I tend to like it that way.

Great area, can't wait to see when it is.  Could use it as a workout before IMFL if it's early enough.

title is deceiving, this is a 1/2 Iron (yes 1/2 = 70.3) but is not part of the 70.3 series.

Sorry. Didn't even think about 70.3 being a copyrighted term. I tried, but can't edit the title after 30 minutes.

So are you in?  Oct 4 seems to work for me but i'll have to check with my financial advisor (wife) to see if there is another entry fee floating around.  Since i've already gotten fee's for FL 70.3, NYC Tri, Annapolis Tri, and IMFL this year i'll be cutting it close, especially since all of those have been or will be out of town trips.  But then again fathers day is coming and the day before that is my birthday.  I still have a chance.

I am in; my financial advisor (wife) already gave me the go ahead. I am anxious to see a layout of the race course. I had been planning on doing the Six Gap bike ride up in NE GA, but it is the weekend before so I'll have to scrap those plans.

I might be in too.  I assume the swim is in the Atlantic?  Anyone have any info on the course?

DRC Sports is an awesome group. I would do this race in a second. My favorite tri series is put on by them in Crystal River.

Crap ... for a while there were too few fall 70.3 races (btw, according to WTC calling an event "half-ironman distance" is a trademark infringement) and now our cup runneth over.

There is the WTC commissioned Augusta 70.3, a race at Lake Oconee/Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro and now this one ... all in October.  The SC HIM will lose a considerable amount of participants from Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

Great area for a race, but I am going to miss this one as this is the year for Six Gaps.  Good luck to those racing.

Another HIM option is great news and AI is a great distination.  Drivable from Atlanta and a nice place to relax for a few days after the race.

Amelia Island 1/2 will have a slight advantage in that the race is this fall, that it's smaller and cheaper.  The Augusta 70.3 is scheduled for next year.

I'm 99.9% in for this as my first half ironman distance race.  I'd love to hear about anyone else who might be considering this one!!

I think I'm going to do this as my first HIM as well.  I was at the 1st Crystal River race when they annouced this race.  Its only about 1.5 hours from me so it will be a nice easy drive.

Unfortunately, couldn't swing the travel costs.  This is much closer and driveable for us, and we can drop the dogs with my parents.

I really want to do it one day!

I am headiing down to the Amilia Island Plantation on July 1st.  I was bummed to find out that they moved the date for the july 5th race on Little Talbot.

Missed it by that much.

I'm ready to sign up, but it would be nice to know what the cutoff times will be. I've emailed the RD to no avail.  I should be fine, but kind of want to know just as a backup.

Anyone know what the wind could be like on the bike course? That's the only issue that's been raised to me by others.
