NOT the monthly thread - fear not.

So the other day was this year's innaugural leg-shaving day for me. Last year (my 1st) took about 3hrs to complete, since I didn't know what I was doing.

This year, however, I went from full hair legs to smoooooooth in <10 mins. Why? Nair For Men. Greatest thing ever. Quite the timesaver.

A little FYI for the guys who are going to bite the bullet in the near future...

I takes time to master the skill without cutting yourself etc...

I used to shave my legs and would also be done in less than 10mins.  Am going to start shaving again in the spring once it gets warmer.

Tried Nair a couple times in my, uh, shaving career. In the future, I'd rather use battery acid. I can shave in around ten minutes without feeling like my skin has been set ablaze. Cheaper, too.

YMMV.

Three hours?! Were you using tweezers??? WTH were you doing for 3 hours?!?!

Uh congrats on shaving 170 minutes off your time. PB!

I like the looks of smooth legs on cyclists, swimmers, triathletes. But I do not dig it on a guy I want to date. Weird, huh?

I went the Nair route last summer and won't be taking off my winter growth in that fashion again this yr. That's some skanky stuff.

Agreed. Never again. I'd rather use a year old dull razor and wash 'em down with rubbing alchohol. At least then the burning stops after a day or so.

Clippers then Extreme 3 for this dude.

Nair x2 here. Just follow the instructions to the letter and you won't burn yourself.

Of course, I only use it while standing in water, in the bath, with some plugged-in clippers near by

For real? I've been shaving my legs year-round, for 15 years and have maybe nicked myself, nothing more, only a handful of times.

ETA after reading Aikidoman's post - what are you fellas DOING to yourselves?! It's not hard

To Renee - have you ever dated a guy with shaved legs? I thought it'd be weird too - until I dated a former triathlete who had a ROCKIN' body and shaved his legs. It was like going to bed with a Calvin Klein model (he was absolutely gorgeous, to boot).

I've given up.  After 6-8 weeks of razor burn, itching, and rash, enough is enough.  Tried all the tips - cream, no cream, with the grain, against it, new razor, loufa, warm water, cold water, one blade, three blades.  Not worth it...

From the knee down, no problems, front of thighs, ok, but the back of thighs, ouch.  Plus I have a desk job so it hurt all day.....

No, but I was married to a guy with shaved legs. My ex husband used to cycle and do centuries. I hated the stubble on his legs. It just did not feel right. It was all wrong!

You're just supposed to shave the hair off, not the top 3 layers of skin, too   The only time I've irritated my skin shaving was when I tried w/o shaving cream -- bad idea.  I've never had to shave the backs of my thighs tho....

Do you guys  shave razor close or just with clippers with no guard?? I used to shave with clippers and no guard but I cant imagine actually shaving my leg with a razor!! ouch!

P.S. Is this done strictly for looks or is their really some competitive advantage to this?? Thanks.

If I am racking my bike next to yours, and you look down and see my shaved legs, and you start to wonder if it is providing me some sort of competitive advantage.... then it already has.

Never never never and I mean NEVER again will I use the NAIR. did the job but my skin didn't like it. Razor all the way.

Competetive advantage. Nope! but i feels good and makes your legs look even better. Not that I am vain or anything, its just that I have worked hard to get some good looking legs (FINALLY!) and want them to look their best. You always know who you cycling friends are by looking at the legs.

I ahve always had a few experiences when I said to myself. Self that would have hurt a lot more if you had hair there. Usually when training with the ball or rubber bands.....

I'm not sure about advantage... but when I'm out on the bike... and it's 120 degrees on black pavement... then I'm off on a run on same said HOT piece of road... It's much cooler and feels so much better to have the sweat "wick" away rather than have it stuck to a bunch of leg hair. Additionally... feels a MILLION times better in the pool/lake/ocean. Shave those puppies. lastly... my wife loves my legs shaved. I kill myself to get them looking ripped... might as well show them off.

Clippers with no guard first.  Then razor (or Nair).

Vanity.  But the "list" to give to others:

1.  easier to clean gravel out of road rash,

2.  massages feel better,

3.  blah, blah, blah.

It's all about vanity.

Scott, someone who would look at your legs and wonder if it provided you competitive advantage is likely someone whose behind you are going to kick anyway.  I think FOPers know it is about vanity.

You'll be glad you did.  First sensation I really noticed afterwards was EVERYTHING touches your legs after you shave - sheets, pants, etc.  The sheets feel realllly good.  Put new sheets on your bed the day you shave.

The first time I shaved my legs, I started with hair clippers with no guard. Once that got the majority of hair off, I hit them up with a razor. Didn't take long, and they were white as a ghost.

Advantage - more-or-less 99% mental edge. I "feel" faster, and that is all that counts.
