let me just say AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I have inflammation in two disc C3 and C4, no training for 3-6 months and no work for another month. Dang, I don't know how I can do this. My A race is in October and I can't do it. It was the one that I have been training for all year. In addition to that, my MS150 is done as well. This hurts more than anything. I haven't missed a year since I started riding 4 yrs ago. I ride for my mom who has MS and I was riding in memory of a friend's sister-in-law.

I am so pissed off right now. I stil have to go to the MS150 seeing as I am also team captain and that will kill me, sending my riders off without me.

Oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles. I can still ride my bike on the trainer.

Oh, I am sorry.  That really has to hurt.  I know it is different for everyone, but I have always felt better by going to races I cannot participate in rather than sitting at home feeling sorry for myself.  Of course I always feel very jealous but I love cheering my friends or family on.  My biggest disruption to racing has been pregnancy and I totally hate missing our local races but I don't think I have missed being at a single one of them over the past several years.  The year I did my HIM, I had to skip a half-marathon that I was registered for because I came down with bronchitis and the half was too close to the HIM for me to risk blowing all of my HIM training.  It sucked big time but I went for an easy bike ride early in the morning and then rode down to the finish line of the race and cheered all of my healthy friends across the line.  Perhaps you can do some trainer miles sometime on the day of the MS150.  It won't be the same but you can still dedicate the ride to your Mom.  Heck, I'd even consider taking my trainer down to where the ride kicks off and do a work out there!  Hang in there.  Injuries suck big time.  Hopefully after your 3-6 months off, you will be ready to bounce back.

My season ended last week after one of my lungs collapsed so I can definitely sympathize with you! Heal up!

Hey there... so sorry to hear about your situation!  Is there any chance instead of riding in the MS150 that you could volunteer for it?  I know it isn't the same because I have done that for the MS Challenge Walk, but it is still better than nothing!

I'm sorry for your injury.I agree with what another said go volunteer. I find volunteering at tris or other events very rewarding and it is nice to give back to the sports we love.I had back surgery 10+ years ago and never thought I could run or bike much or far and I just finished an IM as I was in pain daily for 5 years after surgery. Now I have back pain maybe 10 days a year and feel great. It can get better...in time I learned to listen to my body and know when I can push on and when I need to back off.I hope you have a supportive doc and can get great PT if warranted.

I'm sorry as well about your season. Whatever you do, take the time to recover, listen to your health care providers, do all of the physical therapy, and come back strong. The only thing worse than missing a season due to injury is to miss even more by not doing the above. Good luck.

Thank you all for the wonderful words and advice. I had to step away and vent on my blog a bit and actually just cry. While it sucks, I still have my health and my life and a wonderful family. My husband is awesome, my daughter adorable and my sister just offered me a job, since I can't do massage right now either.

I am going to contact the MS Society about volunteering and also volunteer for the ramblin rose. I talked my brother-in-law's sister into racing with me. So, I would be there for her anyway.

Great plan to volunteer for MS150. You'll still feel a part of it and benefit the cause at the same time. I've volunteered for my local MS150 twice and it's a great event.

Good luck with your recovery. I'm sure that sitting out your training and races is hard, but if you take care now you'll be back stronger than ever next season.

I'm sorry!  My 2008 went down the tubes too!  I had high hope to do my first Oly this summer, but nope!  I've been battling overuse injuries all year and couldn't even do the local mini sprint tomorrow.  sucks!

Mine ended yesterday. I have at best a badly sprained hip, at worst who knows. Really can't even walk that well so my first attempt at a marathon is now out the window (New York in November). At least I got my A Tri in (New York).

The only funny part is what happened at the doctor's office. I was waiting for the elevator with a guy who had to be 90 and was not exactly spry. "Ding" elevator door opens and we're both hobbling side by side trying to get to the door before it closed. We didn't make it.

I chuckled a little to myself at the sight. I think he thought I was goofing on him cause he gave me a really dirty look.
