FYI, I received an e-mail today that there are only 150 slots left for the Finger Lakes Tri next month.

Also, the bike course for both the Oly and the sprint have changed some.

Gahhh looks like I'll have to decide by the end of today!  One deciding factor: what's the water temp usually like?  This was my first season so I haven't shelled out for a wetsuit yet.  I'm straight out of collegiate swimming and actually like racing in water that's in the low 70s more than warmer water.

According to the City of Canandaigua Government's Official Website, the lake water temperature at Kershaw beach was 60 degrees on Tuesday, August 12.

I don't think it is that cold.  I swam there this morning and if I had to guess I would say the upper 60's.  But I did comment this morning to dexter when we got in that it was cooling off quite a bit between the rain and the cool nights we have had the last week or so.  I was fine in a sleeveless wetsuit though.  But if this rainy cooler weather we have had lately doesn't turn back to normal August soon, it won't be long before it is in the low 60's!

The level is up quite a bit this year compared to last year too.  You can swim to within a couple of yards of the swim exit.

There is a shop nearby that rents wetsuits if you are concerned.  www.triwalkingandrunning.com is their website.

Xan - 2008-08-31 9:45 AM Any info on bike elevation profile form those who have done this race?

Olympic Course with Cue Sheet.  938 feet of climbing. It's respectable but not out of control. Most of the climbing is at the beginning with 2 decent climbs around miles 9 and 15. The last 6-7 miles are downhill to flat making for a great setup to run off of the bike. The run course is utterly flat too, so this is a runner's dream race.

New Sprint Course. 500 or so feet of climbing. it goes up for 6 miles, down for 4, and then flat for 5 more. It diverges from the Oly course earlier this year. Again, a nice setup to run off of the bike as long as you don't waste yourself with a too-hard swim and the initial long climb out of the water.

I rode the oly bike course yesterday, and was practically blown away by the wind.  Is it always this windy in Canandaigua??

Not always, but yesterday was a breezy day.  Typically where you will notice the wind on that course is on the section from Gorham down to Rushville.  Sometimes on the section from Rushville towards the lake especially  up on the hill before descending down to the lake.

Hi All,

Once again this year, the wife and I are holding a carbo load dinner the night before this race. We'll have whole wheat pasta with pesto, grilled chicken, salad, fruit salad etc.

You, your families, and non-BT triathlon friends are welcome, we'd appreciate a phone call or PM to let us know you'll be coming and approximately how many. Still, if you suddenly decide you can make it at the last minute, please come, the door's open.

Food will be served around 5:30.

If you haven't met any BT'ers yet, this is a great time do do so, we'd love to have you.

PM me for directions, my cell # etc.

Mike,

That is very gracious of you. I will be driving in on race morning from the Buffalo area; maybe I will meet some BTers at the race.

 Thanks again for the offer.

Very nice of you and Julie to host dinner again, Mike!  I wish I could make it, but I have the same meetings this year as I had last!

A side note, if you didn't catch it, but it looks like they have eliminated parking at Steamboat Landings this year.  I am guessing do to a bigger transition area to accommodate the additional participants this year.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday!!!

Right. That was my attempt to encourage a few sample posts. Because I'm generous, and because I'm a lover, not a fighter, I went first.
