Expert 966![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Decatur | Subject: How many of you actually workout while at work?My schedule is changing and I'm adding in school and private tutoring. I'm pretty done before work read: I hate getting up early. after work is limited purely because of time and the fact it gets dark early. My work won't care, I mean I'm the boss and my boss surely wouldn't mind (she's not at my facility anyway). I'm thinking of trying to squeeze in runs and bikes while at work or before I go to class. I mean I'm surrounded by lovely country roads. I'm also nervous and intimidated. Ya know, there goes the fat girl trying to workout. Yea I know I'm working on the fat girl issue but i'm still that to start out with. Do any of you do this? How has it worked out? How do you workout the shower issue (no shower in my facility)? No local gym either because I work in the country not the city. And the one I visited was TINY and wanted 50 bucks a month to join. yea - I'm already paying the Y 50 bucks a month.
Tips?

Champion 10668![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tacoma, Washington | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I've been fortunate in that I had a very large company facility at my last work place, with spinning classes and lots of equipment. My current location doesn't have the facility, but it does have a locker room and showers, and a huge network of trails for running, and some pretty quiet country roads close by for riding. So yes, I do a large portion of my workouts on my lunch "hour and a half". |

Expert 2180![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Boise, Idaho | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?Decatur, IL??? Latrina, Sure you can do it.....however; YOU MUST MOVE QUICKLY! Too much time can be lost just getting dressed to go out the door. And unless you get more than an hour for lunch, you won't be able to run for very long. That being said-you can get some quick, intense workouts in; stop for some pushups and chin ups along the way. Sink bath-fill sink with cool water, squeeze in just a bit of soap and wash up. Focus first on your face, then get down to the dirty/stinky parts. You'll probably still be sweating a bit when you get back to your desk-just tell everyone that you finished your work out. They'll be envious. YOU CAN DO IT! |

Cycling Guru 15134![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?During IM training I would do one recovery run a week from work during lunch. But without shower facilities and nowhere to change other than the restroom it was tricky. Edited by Daremo 2008-09-25 7:57 AM |

I can go for runs and take a shower during lunch. There is a rumor they might start charging for the fitness center. Maybe charge for hot water, too. |

Regular 69![]() ![]() Jacksonville | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I guess I have it made - in the Marines we're expected to be in shape, so working out during the duty day is business as usual. There is a pair of gyms on the base here, each with decent locker rooms. I guess that doesn't help you out much, unless of course you wanted to enlist. We're always hiring!!! |

A little bit every day adds up quick. Luckily there is a shower in our building. Good luck |

This is just some easy off season training. i.e. running, biking and done! I've got 1-2 hours to work with. I think I need to start driving routes tomorrow...you guys are very convincing... |

Champion 5117![]() ![]() Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work? We've got a shower here at work, and I think I'm the only person who has ever used it. I think they put it there for bike commuting, but we don't have bike racks and I can't find a route to work that wouldn't kill me within the week. So, I've used it a few times to get in some runs. I definitely plan on getting in most of my running for HIM training during lunch. Good news is, the people I work with know that I'm training and I can flex my hours around a bit for the long run days. |

If you are serious about getting in shape I would suggest you work through this issue. It'll suck for the first week or so but you'll get into a nice groove rather than the rut you are fighting out of. Best of luck. You'll be posting in that Girls of BT Thread before you know it! |

At first I had no showers available but do now. One thing is that the showers really don't matter unless you sweat a ton. If you do, then you simply have to decide if you care? To me health out weighs smell any day. |

Expert 856![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I train nearly everyday during lunch. Usually alternating biking and running. Great trail right by my office. Luckily we have a small gym, an aerobics room, and showers. Plus a cafeteria in the building so eating afterwards is no problem. Makes all the difference to me so that I don't have to take away any family time in the evenings. |

Queen BTich 12411![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() , | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?1-2 hours is plenty of time! Do it while you can, if you really want to make it work. Don't worry about what people think: you're the one going out there! You won't be the fat girl trying to workout for long! Get rid of that mentality! GET OUT THERE! As for the shower, wipes, washrag (light soap), wipe down, new deodarant. You shouldn't do too much damage with an hour or 2 of lighter workouts especially since its cooling off. GOOD LUCK! |

Member 381![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?i guess i'm lucky to have a "one person" bathroom with shower down the hall. and a felxible work schedule - 7am-5pm + 1.5 hour ride + shower then eat = 8hour workday. not sure how i would fare without a shower, but i would certainly try a sponge bath using a washclothe and the sink. or just spray some febreeze - thats s'posed to cover any smell. if your co workers think any negative thoughts, they will come around soon when they see you sticking to your goals while they stay in and sit around for lunch. They'll probably be saying "I wonder what she thinks of us for being so lazy..." |

Extreme Veteran 542![]() ![]() Pauls Valley, OK | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I do, but my situation is a little different. I work on a 50 acre tree farm. I will go for a short run while I am "checking" the crop, or I will do intervals or strides while "monitoring" the irrigation system. I try to do this late in the day when I will be heading straight to the pool after work. It is quite convenient. |

I do a workout at the office occasionally (usually when I have to make one up that I missed in the morning). It's not the best case scenario, but it is doable. Be efficient, use the sink and wipes, and you can get your workout in. Good luck! |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I almost ALWAYS get one of my workout in at lunch. I pick the shorter of the two and do it on my lunch break. Occasionally, I have to stretch my lunch to 90 minutes to get it in. I have a gym 5 minutes away, so I can get a shorter run or swim in most of the time. In Colorado, my office had a shower, and small locker room. So I was able to get an hour in and take a quick shower. |

Veteran 241![]() ![]() ![]() Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?During the heart of the season; I would at least get one of two workouts in at lunch (usually a nice swim). I would actually schedule the time on my Outlook (be sure to make it a private appointment) so that no one would schedule meetings on top of my workout. Now take into consideration that sometimes you have to move it around, but at least you have it there. I would do the corresponding workout either before or after work. The beauty with a lunchtime workout is that it gives you a change to think, get away from the stress and other issues. I would also let at least one superior know what i was doing just to head off any rumors or miscommunications. |

Veteran 145![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I work out at work at lunch - run or ride. No shower or facilities. Bulk continers of Wet Wipes are my best friend or failing that a flannel and soap. Doing the workout for you or your sanity is more important that putting up with no facilities. (Don't use the antibacterial wipes or any with alcohol - baby wipes or the aloe type are the best and will get you clean enough.) |

Member 62![]() ![]() Portland, OR | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?My workplace has a shower so I can take a quick 35 minute run and then be at my desk in one hour. On a really slow day I run to a local swimming pool, swim 500 yds and then run back. It takes about an 75 minutes. On those days I don't get a complete run or swim workout but the change of pace is a real kick. That said, all my coworkers think I'm nuts... |
