Subject: Anyone have any opinions/reviews of Monkey Bar Gym?

I already have a Y membership and the kids like the pool enough I don't want to give that up but I am looking at joining the Monkey Bar Gym to help develop a good base this winter.  I can get a discount and my health insurance will reimburse but it is still pretty expensive.  I could attend about 3-5 classes a week before work/at lunch.  Does anyone know if their classes are worth the money I would be spending?  I was going to sign up for the one month thing through MCSR but would like your opinions.

They are a gym in downtown Madison.  They do strength training using body weight resistance and functional interval training (as well as Yoga and Brazilian JuJitsu).  I often see people in their 6:30AM class doing sprints outside on my way to work.  It looks kind of painful.

Why do I keep thinking it is a tavern?  At Marquette we had a bar called "The Gym".  I was always working out.

Well, apparently you all have opinions anyway   I guess that's good.

I do find it interesting that so many of the threads in the forum end up being about alcohol in some form.  Hmmm

Sorry I can't offer any first hand feedback, but I have a few friends that are members and they swear by Monkey Bar, it's the only way they can get motivated to get their in gear and work out. "Outside" magazine also had a rave review of the gym and how they believe that it is the future of fitness. That's good, I guess. Me, I prefer Monkey Shines, it is within walking distance.

It's overpriced and underwhelming. You can pretty much do everything that they do there at home. For free. In closing, DO NOT JOIN.

Yeah, I had a bad experience there. I ended up doing personal training at Orange Shoe Gym and that was much better.
