I just finished my last race of the season. While I tried out 2 races 2 years ago, this was my first focused season. I have already sunk into post season blues. I am now laying out my training goals for next year, but I missed the juice I get focusing on my next race. What am I to do. There are a couple of races left in California that I could travel to, but my wife already thinks I'm obsessed (OK, I am). I am considering finding a coach to help me through this. Any Ideas? I live in Portland Oregon.

Fall/winter = running races!

I always do Baltimore marathon as a habit now (this will be my 5th year starting it) in Oct., then a Jingle Bell 5k in November or December and then a local 5 miler that is really well attended and gives out the best shirt/jacket with registration.

Keep yourself with always having something on the horizon and you have more focus for staying training, even if you do back it off for the "off season."

I think you should buy a new bike. And I know just the place to do that at.

I hear you. But there are couple of fun themed races, too. Look for turkey trots, jingle bell in December, New Year's Day, Superbowl races. It's fun when it's not too serious.

just think of it as the beginning of next year's tri's!

I plan on running a few 5 and 10ks this fall to get ready for next year! Maybe I'm still pretty excited b/c i have a tri left!

have fun with your "offseason".

Thanks for the feed back. I kind of liked the new bike idea, but I'm not sure riding a new bike on my Cycolops indoors this winter is going to do it for me. However, it would be something to look forward to next spring.

Ride outside..many of us ride outside all winter.

All it takes is proper clothing and willingness to get your bike dirty or get a winter bike.

I love winter riding as each ride feels like a gift..lucky me I got another one in. I go down to the Cape in the winter and do a 3-4 hour ride most weekend...after driving 75 miles to get there. Weather is milder so roads are in better shape and I get my outdoor riding fix.

Do something different that excites you. Lots of ideas to consider. You live in OR go to a Cyclocross race this weekend and see if that is something you might like. I find it crazy hard but wicked fun.
