I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced any hip pain after running.  It is not until the following day, but it is right in my hip joint.  My muscles are fine.  I try to maintain "good form."  I'm sure if I even know what "good form" actually is though.  It only happens on my "longer runs".  At this point, those are only around the 6 mile mark.  I am sure it is more of just an acclimation situation.  I am not used to the constant jarring of running.  My other endurance sport is hockey, but that is more gliding as opposed to the pavement pounding.

Stretch and massage it. You should be fine, but it could be the start of a few other issues. If it bothers you during a run, back off or stop.

I get hip pain during and after my long runs. The pain for me is more like severe tightness and plain 'ole uncomfortable feelings. I found out last week it's because of my shortened stride during my long runs...aka, the IM shuffle. My smaller stride causes my quads to not get their normal stretch and thus make my hips tighten. The cure is to do a couple but kicks while running and letting the quads get some active stretching. I was lucky and happened to be running with my PT and she knew exactly what it was causing my pain.

I'm headed to a sports med doc after mine started during the run of my olympic distance tri in July and hasn't gotten any better. I completely stopped running but it still is nagging me It even bothers me when I'm just walking. It started in my left hip and has migrated into the right as well - it is right at the top of the hip bone and deep enough I can't really massage it. I am hoping it is a muscle imbalance and can be easily worked through - ITB stretches have helped. I hope they have some answers for me on Friday - I have to travel 3 hours for the appointment each way so I am expecting big things Good luck and I hope it just goes away!

I've suffered with hip pain from running...and it wasn't even long runs, either. My pain originated right on the iliac crest (hip bone), and was very tender to the touch. I had to cut back on running for a short while, because it hurt even just to walk. I started doing IT band stretches (even though I'm not really sure that is what the cause was) and luckily for me, they helped tremendously. I did some reading up on ITBS, and while many people with it complain of lateral knee pain...there is a small percentage of people that get hip pain from it, too. I would try the ITB stretches, along with massaging the area using a foam roller.

I have been battling this or something similar to this since June. At first I thought it was my shoes, then my coach advised me to see an orthopedic because she believed it was bio-mechanical in nature since she was slowly ramping up my mileage. I was fine with weekly mileage @20 miles, but once I got into 25 mile territory, my hip was very, very tender. To make a long story short, the ortho diagnosed me with a leg-length discrepancy, wrote me a prescription for orthotics. I have run in them 3 times so far. I am hoping this will do the trick. I am interested to see if anyone has other suggestions.

Pam
