Subject: I have blisters....and my first HIM next weekend..HELP!!!!
So next weekend I have my first HIM. I feel like I am ready for this...at least ready for the swim and bike. My run is my weakest link by far and to add to my lack of confidence, I have blisters. I got one on each foot about 3 weeks ago where my arch should be. (I'm flat footed) I thought the area would be healed but found out painfully during a 4 mile run yesterday they are not. SO, I need to take care of that area. Next is the blisters I have on the entire underneath of my pinky toes. These were a gift of my half mary last weekend.

I need advice, help, what has worked for you, what hasn't...anything.

I'm thinking moleskin first and then wrap in elastic bandage followed by sports tape. But I wonder if this will be either too much, or if it just won't hold up for the swim. Essentially, I want my protection light but durable.

Any and all help would be awesome!

Wow! Sorry to hear about them. I walked into a similar problem recently. I probably don't have to tell you that the HM 2 weeks before HIM was risky, your toes have already told you.

This is what I did with 2 weeks before a race. First I put on clean mole skin and thick socks everyday. There was no way I thought I could keep moleskin on through the swim. My blisters were also on my arch (I too am flat footed). However your taping might work. I wear socks for the bike and run, so all I did there was wear my thickest socks. Did you change anything about your footwear? Socks, insoles, laces or shoes. If you did drag the old stuff out of the garbage and go back to using them. I made the mistake of changing my insoles.

Good luck. The rest of your body is going to hurt so dam much you won't notice your feet until it is over. Whatever you do, onece the race starts, forget about it.

Did you not pop them?  I found my sister had blister for like 2 months because she did not pop it.

Oh no, they've all been popped. The spots are just very tender and the toe ones especially are still healing. I'd rather take all precautions and get 'em wrapped.

I had several nasty blisters before my last race.  All I did was wear socks for all my workouts leading up to it so I wouldn't aggravate them anymore.  On race day I went no socks as usual but wrapped the blistered areas in duct tape, and it worked out great.  It didn't move an inch, like with bandaids or electrical tape, and I never even noticed it during the race.  Try it out!

Put some NuSkin on it...it'll sting some, but it'll help it heal up faster as well.  Skin can toughen up quite a bit in a week.  Just don't irritate it much between now and then.

I had a blister get infected (severely infected) 5 days before a HIM. I went to the podiatrist and he fixed me up -- absolutely no issues during the run at the HIM. I would suggest getting into a doctor if you can, you can't predict how your blisters will respond to anything you do to them. I had popped mine with a sterile needle, bad idea (the doc said it was too, and that it needed more than a poke, hence the infection).
