Expert 771![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Farmington, MI | Subject: RE: Calling New Team-Members!Any tri or bike race counts... but not bike "tours"... i.e. *just* a century ride won't count but an official time trial, crit, mountain bike, or cyclocross race would. And you can mix and match (example 4 tris and a MB race). There will be specific "team races" when we all aim to be at the same race (like Big Fish or Blue Water this season) and those will be the races that will be supported with gus, water, electrolytes, bike support, tent, and cheering section, etc. |

For folks who can't commit to a 5 race minimum- there's a "Sport Level" team category in addition to the Road Bike/Mountain Bike/Triathlon team categories. You'd still get the in store discounts and team support at races but you don't have to commit to any specified number of races. Plus you're still included in the forum, group training events, race series, and other fun bonuses! Edited by sushigirl 2008-10-02 7:41 PM |

And much like Trish, I hope that the same cast of stellar characters doesn't object to being put forth as references. So, in the spirit of the season, here is some lobbying that may help my odds of making the cut: "I am a very dedicated team-player whose commitment to the sport of triathlon and to the guiding principles of a healthy, active lifestyle would make a positive addition to an already tremendous team of athletes and phenomenal individuals. I look forward to a favorable review of my forthcoming application, and to a very successful, energizing, enriching and *fun* 2009 season!" (I am travelmunky, and I approve this message) |

Speaking for myself and the other "stellar" characters, we CAN be bought, but we are very expensive! (shhh, don't tell anyone but a good bottle of red wine will buy my vote.) Edited by jogo 2008-10-03 7:12 PM |

Ok so humor me this, lets say that I decide to fill out the app... What does a Beginner Triathlete's racing resume look like? Expert 771![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Farmington, MI | Subject: RE: Calling New Team-Members!I KNOW that downward spiral you speak of... I know it well. For my racing resume last year I listed my 3 tris that I'd done and mentioned my final AG place and swim AG place (because my swim was always 2 or 3) and then also included the highlights of my running "career" (i.e. X # of half-marathons, 2006 Detroit Mary, 5k PR, etc. and the finishing times). I probably didn't spend more than 10 minutes on it. Don't sweat it. You could list any of us B.T. Greyhounds as references, we've got your back! (Jaclyn/sushi, Glen/nelg, Joann/jogo and/or Kimm/girlw1nose). GO FOR IT!! (and if the 5 races is really a deal-breaker than apply for the Sport category team and then there's no race minimum).

I so know that spiral. My husband would not let me get caught up in it until I proved to him that I was going to enjoy this. I had NEVER done a tri before this year and never done any race except the detroit marathon so the resume was quite sad. Don't let 5 races freak you out. It was easy to do 5, in fact I am doing 6 this year, with a duathlon next week. If this old, fat, slow newbie triathlete can do it, anyone can. As I said in an earlier thread, we are from all age groups and skill levels, but what we do share is an enjoyment of the sport. With all the encouragement and support of our team, we all have improved. The experience is invaluable. |

Expert 1091![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Calling New Team-Members!My "resume" was just listing out the 3 tris and 1 relay I participated in this season. I didn't put my places or times or anything too specific...didn't want to scare them off with my slowness! :-) Talk to your better half and assure her your spending will not go insane (let her know of the great discounts afforded to team members) and remind her how healthy you will be staying! You husbands do drive us nuts with your hobbies (my dh loves watching football...all football!) but we do want you around to get old with...this just assures her you will be driving her crazy forever! Look at it this way. You're going to spend the money anyhow, because that's what us nuts do. Why not apply for the team to get that stuff discounted?
Also, the Greyhounds aren't necessarily looking for speed...they're looking for those that love what they're doing and want a team atmosphere to get better at what they love. Basically, it's a team of cool people that think something like a 2 hour bike ride followed by a run or swim sounds like a fun way to spend a Saturday! |

Now I need to find a few more races... a new bike... and money. That's great news! And HOLD OFF on that bike purchase until you're in the team (say Dec.- Jan.) because you'll get an insane deal buying one from the team shop/group buy. That's what I did last year and got a CRAZY good deal... plus a great bike and free service.

But I'm prolly gonna buy the P3C soon as its haunted my dreams for the past several months. What bike options will be available? Make/model? And on that note: anyone heard anything good about Fuji's new Tri bike the D6? |

And on that note: anyone heard anything good about Fuji's new Tri bike the D6? The P3C is s totally badass ride, but we have a couple nice bikes up our sleeves as well. Ever hear of BMC? They are one of our bike sponsors this year. BMC makes some of the most advanced frames on the market and Cycle to Fitness is one of a handful of BMC dealers in Michigan. How about one of these bad boys instead? http://www.bmc-racing.com/en/us/bikes/road-series/time-machine/tt01... You are also welcome to try my TT03 Time Machine if you wish. I don't think you can go wrong either way, the differences between the frames don't make near the impact that doing our Tuesday night rides will. |
