Thanks for the article, I read the whole thing.  I found it to be incredibly sad.  There are two people in a lot of pain and having a hard time coping.  I'm not sure they are even close to finding what they're looking for.  I did find their drive to come to terms with their tragedies to be very inspiring.

I do have to say that I'm less than thrilled about the whole shark factor.  I hear that same thing about the SF Bay; "Oh don't worry, there are only Leopard Sharks here and they won't bother you."  Well, the Farallon Islands are just outside the Golden Gate and I don't think there is a larger concentration of Great White Sharks in the world.  To top it off, there is a video that has documented proof that a Great White Shark was spotted at the foot of the Richomond Bridge, which is right next to the Marin County Triathlon venue.  This is where I'm training right now and racing in two weeks.  Lovely.

I really enjoyed the article, but I can't say it inspired me to be less apprehensive about something that I'm already a mess about.

That was a phenomenal article.....almost had me in tears at work!

Did the Solana Beach Tri this year and saw all the cameras around.  Knew that Jeff and his son competed, but it's nice to hear the entire story.  They are so strong....

I will never forget hearing on the news of that tragedy.  Then they announced the man's name, Dave Martin.  I felt a sudden panic.  My cousin is named Dave Martin.  He is building a house in Solana Beach.  He is an avid bike rider and surf's down there.  Phone calls were going crazy through my family.  NO one had heard from him.   We couldn't get a hold of his wife.  It was horrible.  That feeling pales in comparison to what these people had to go through.  Later that day, we heard from my cousin Dave.  He had 100's of phone calls from people all thinking the same thing we were.  He had been on an all day ride in North County or something.  I spent my first 30 years in So Cal surfing from Long Beach deep down into Mexico.  That thought is always in the back of your head.  I don't know if I could have done what Jeff did.  That is truely amazing.

WOW.  Amazing article, thanks for posting that link.  She is one gutsy lady and that story is too powerful to hide in obscurity.
