Woohoo! So my friend does bike racing and I was like, "Hey, do you have a trainer?"

"Yeah."

"How much are they? I think I need one, but I don't even know what it is."

"I have an extra. You want it?"

"What? I mean, I will definitely pay you for it."

"No, someone gave it to me free. I couldn't charge you." Then he went to his basement, showed me how to use the thing and, well, now it's mine.

I couldn't believe. I kind of feel official now.

How much money did he save me?

That's awesome! He saved you around $100 to %250 depending on what he gave you!

Have you used it yet? How did you like it?

What kind is it? Mine was $320.

So anywhere from about $150-$350 probably. Either way, its a free trainer!

Hmmm....

As a couple of others have said, trainers go from about $100 to $300, so you could argue that's what he saved you.

Or you could compare the free trainer to the cost of a gym membership where you can ride a stationary bike.  That'd be $300--800 depending on how expensive an area and how nice a gym (plus the cost of getting there and back).

Or you could compare it to the cost of outfitting yourself in cold/wet weather gear (whatever your definition of "cold" and/or "wet" are) plus lights.  That'd be in the $300 range too.

Or maybe it isn't really "free" and you'll pay up later   (just kidding here, the red italics is the sarcasm font).
