Subject: new bars... don't fit my stem??
Hi

I have a motobecane nemesis with ritchey pro base, aerobars and stem. I recently purchased new profile design aluminum x aero and base bars. This evening, I dismantled the old bars which went rather smoothly, but then when I tried to mount my new bars on the stem, they do not fit.

What's the deal?

Mike,

The Ritcheys have a 26mm diameter base bar and the Profiles have a 31.8mm base bar. You need to get a stem that fits a 1 1/8 diameter steer tube and a 31.8mm handlebar for the length you need.

If you wanted to run the bars this weekend, give me a call and you can borrow the one from my roadie, which will fit if you can use a 100mm length, until you find a new one.

I think they make a shim, also, but I personally wouldn't trust it not to slip with the torque you'd put on a bar climbing out of the saddle.

Any LBS usually has a crapload of stems laying around.

Thanks Charlie. I actually just ordered one. Good luck at Cedar Beach this weekend. I'm not racing... with the marathon three weeks away, I didn't want to lose a weekend of training for a sprint. Next year.
