Subject: "Luke, you’ve switched off your targeting computer. What’s wrong?"So this morning, for the first time in years, my Garmin (Forerunner 305) wouldn't pick up a satellite and I was in a strange place. I have often forced myself not to look at the Garmin, in order to work on correct self-pacing, but it has always (well, for the past few years) been there. This was different. I admit that as I started off I felt very strange, a bit disoriented. I just ran. Annoyed with it, I had left the Garmin back in the hotel room and just glanced at a nearby clock as I left. After that, I had no idea how far, or how long, I had been running. i just ran. After a while, it felt really great. I think I had forgotten what it feels like to just run. OK., I admit, I glanced at that same clock when I returned, and later plotted the route on mapmyrun.com, so I still need some therapy, but nonetheless, it was fun to just run (and just slightly scary that according to mapmyrun.com I ran exactly 10K).
