"thread" coming off tire beads?

Picked my bike up from the shop, run Continental Grand Prixs, and there were 3 or 4 "threads" coming off the bead location.  I pulled a couple off, cut off the others.....   Is this normal or something I should be worried about?  

I haven't seen any more on the two rides I've been on, including a 110 miler
