So here is my scenario: I can sign up now for Louisville now. Given wedding plans, work, etc. I would rather do Florida or Arizona. How fast are Florida and Arizona going to fill up. Will they even reach on-line registration. I fear that if I wait just a few more days I'll miss Louisville and then Florida and Arizona when they don't come out online.

Given the history Florida will be difficult to get into unless you are on-site, or opt for community fund.  this is the first year for Arizona being in the fall, during the spring it didn't fill up immediately but it's hard to predict what will happen this year, Also with the new registration requirements for on site there is a chance some events will make it online with more slots..

so basically I just gave you info, but no answer.  Unless you have your heart set on an "ironman" race there are others in that time frame that dont' fill up that fast.

Just to let you know, I emailed the Athlete Coordinator for Louisville on 9/15 and was informed that they had about 500 spots left, so I would wager a guess that they are pretty close to being filld up. Just a FYI.

What are the new on site requirements? I was planning on going to FL or AZ next yr to volunteer and then sign up for the race after that.

I would think that a volunteer could sign up after the athletes on site.  I know you can't sign up for someone else while there.....

If you or anyone could figure this out, you could bottle and sell it.

It is hard to predict. IMFL did go on line shortly last year. You could wait, try for FL and then if you didn't get in try again for AZ.

Besides community slots there are other ways to get in.

Reality is does it make sense to spend the time and money to travel to get in vs waiting to see if you could get in on line. If you don't get in on line spend the extra money and get in another way.

If you go to an NAS race, the volunteers have a separate line for registration the day after the race.  That line gets processed before the general entry on-site line gets processed.

Also, as stated in another thread, you will now have to pay for your registration on-site, not just receive a voucher and have the option to wait and think about it.

Just wait and see if you can get into Florida, if not, then try Arizona, if not, then sign up for Louisville, I bet it is still open by then.

That a gamble though.

After people can't get into Florida online, they will probably look to Louisville and sign up for that. Only 500 slots left?

Something to remember... IMWI sold out in about 8 minutes for 2008, but was online for just over 20 minutes for 2009 registration.  It filled up much slower this year, and it's possible that Florida will go the same way.

I also think the new registration procedures are going to affect this as well.  Making people pay for the race on site is probably going to curb the numbers a bit.  Personally, I'd take the gamble that FL goes online.  But that's just me.

A lot of Arizona slots have already been spoken for from the people who registered in person at IMAZ Spring, so there might be less slots available online for next years IMAZ then other races.

IMFL filled up in around 5 minutes for this year.  There is always the community slots if you can't get in (just got to pay the entry fee twice).

Ok getting real specific, how do you know when the online opens up. I imagine you log on and try to register the day after the IM and it says you can't yet.... or is there an official "we will start taking registration for X IM starting at 9:00 am pst" or whatever?

They will give you a time.  I believe Louisville opened up at 11:00 est the day after the race.
