Subject: La Jolla Cove
Visiting SD in a couple of weeks and want to do an OWS. I've been there many times and know that a lot of folks swim at The Cove. I know there is at least one buoy off shore. Does anyone know the distance from the shore to the buoy?

ETA: I think I found out. I know, I know; Google first, start thread as last resort....

One other important feature of La Jolla Cove is its unique swim zone. The Cove's swimming area extends outward a half mile to form a corridor for long-distance swimming. Boats are not permitted to cross this corridor at any point. In fact, flotation devices of any kind — including kayaks, surfboards, boogie boards, inflatable toys, and even lifejackets — are banned from the Cove.

The swim zone contains distance buoys placed at quarter-mile and half-mile distances so you can keep track of how far you are swimming.

The 1/4 mile buoy has gone missing FYI. Oddly enough it seemed a whole lot further to the buoy this Sat until I realized that I was staring at the 1/2 mile buoy.

if you make it inside the cove keep on the look out for a wedding band.  I lost it there this weekend near the shallow end of the cave.

Don't count on the 1/4 mile buoy being there. Its been gone for quite some time now. I think the last time I saw it was early spring.
