This looks like a pretty cool device. I was hoping that Garmin's next release would be a succesor to the Edge 705 though.

My Edge 305 number three is about to give up the ghost.  Maybe I'll get one of these.  The old handlebar mount was pretty poorly designed.

Given the price point, I can see being a fairly popular unit, so I'll have to get one for supporting and troubleshooting with the training logs.

My collection of Garmin hardware is going to be just plain silly...

Looks to me like a 705 without the color move map display.  Smaller, with a better mount.  Overall I think it may be an excellent choice for many, but I'd never give up my built in maps.  I'm assumming it'll handle courses at least as well as the 305 with memory more like the 705.

I hope garmin upgrades my 705 firmware to include the vertical speed data and especially the rider alert for moving without the timer being on.

I like the alert to remind you to start the timer, I have forgotten to do that several times.  I also like the altimeter for accurate climb info.

I was thinking of getting an Edge for the bike and use my 305 for just running.  Does anyone have comments on the benefits of using separate bike computer .vs. using the 305 for both?

i use 705 for biking and 305 for running.  makes t2 faster, but i went to 705 because I needed a head unit for a PM......

I do that.  The edge gives you a bigger screen for larger numbers, or more data.  And has the altimeter for much better climb data.  I've never used my FR on the bike so can't comment on other possible limitations like how it handles preprogrammed courses.
