Subject: Bike Guru's I need Crank Help
I am interested in trying out compact cranks. At the moment I ride 172.5mm. How do I figure out what length I would get in a compact crank? Would I go to 170mm or 165mm? Anybody able to tell me what I need to be looking into if I want to make the change.

Thanks

I don't think the compact (vs standard) makes any difference for the crank arm length. But then, I could be wrong... it has happened before.

I'm not taking, nor offering anything that belongs to bike guru*

but...
compact refers to chainring size, not arm length. Are you interested in lower gears (i.e., a compact) or just shorter crank arms? If you are talking about the former, generally you stay with what you have in terms of length (unless of course you have a reason not to; and 172.5 is the most common size these days).

^^^

What they said.

Compact has nothing to do with crank arm length and everything to do with chainring size.
