Subject: Online Coaching?

Will finish up my first season of triathlons in a month or so.  Next year plan to move up from sprint/olympic distance and do at least one but probably two HIM distance.  This year I have loosely followed plans here on BT and worked on building a solid base in swim/bike/run. Was wondering if anyone had used any of the online coaching services and what their experience has been.  I have looked at many of the  online coaching sites and some can be quite expensive.  I want something more than a pre-packaged plan but dont need to have unlimited acess to a coach. Any positive experiences?

I think you'll find it hard to find this combination of things.  Often, if you want a customized plan the coach will want to interact with you a lot to get feedback used in tweaking the weekly/monthly plan.  A coach is more likely to offer cheaper rates with little/no communication when it comes to the sale of a cookie-cutter plan.  good luck

I don't know.  I've seen many online services with a custom plan that is updated every few weeks or so, but don't include UNLIMITED access to the coach.  They often specify a number of phone calls and some volume of email communication per month that is included.

But I've never used any of these services, so can't conmment on their effectiveness.

Since you are already a gold member here, your best bet might be following D3 plans (off-season over the winter and then into a HIM plan) and taking advantage of training support forum.  While you are following a pre-packaged plan, you get access to coaches who know the plans and can guide you through the training process.

There are also coaches who offer an annual training plan and/or consultation option that may work for you, however if your program is being delivered for the entire in one shot, you are basically just getting a pre-packaged plan.

The real advantage to hiring a coach is that you have someone who reviews your training regularly as well as providing feedback, guidance and adjustment as required.  Even though you may not be contacting the coach on a regular basis with questions, they would still be going through your training and developing the next week based on how your previous workouts have been going.  Further, you should be able to fire off an email (or call) your coach when something unexpected comes up and have your program adjusted so that it fits with your schedule.

Good luck in your search!
