110% sure this has been discussed but I can't pinpoint a past thread.

Been using Asics Keyanos for yrs & get some 500+ miles out of them (about 300+ out of 2100's) & love the cushion/stability (stark difference for me w/the 2100's). Problem is the price. Have any loyal Keyano users dared to find a succesful--less expenseive--alternative?

I too am a loyal Keyano fan, and no I have not found an alternative so far. A few years back I tried a few different brands of shoes, but kept going back to the Keyanos. Haven't tried anything else since, because I know they work for me I just know I have to come up with the cash twice a year. ;-)

Yep, I've tried a few of the cheaper alternatives and while they were OK, I found myself always returning to the Kayanos. In fact, once I went to an awesome local sports store -- seriously, these guys are the best, always super nice and helpful and friendly, never try to upsell you -- and they were out of my size in the Kayanos. I asked the sales guy if he could recommend an alternative, since I was thinking about branching out anyway, and he just shook his head and said he'd be happy to show me some shoes but in his experience, Kayano wearers were crazy-loyal and they always came back to the Kayano.

That said, I did wear the Evolution for my first marathon last year. I never liked it quite as much as the Kayano, but if you're looking to save some money maybe give it a shot? I have no idea the specs on it -- I think it's motion control? It's definitely not as cushy as the Kayano but my feet didn't seem to suffer for it.

PS: You might find more threads if you spell Kayano right -- it's with two "A's".

I started out with Kayanos but found I needed more cushion and switched to the Nimbus.

I've found that if you watch at Sports Authority they'll sometimes have really good sales on older versions of ASICS shoes when the new ones are out at full price.   Just checked and it looks like Amazon does this too--Kayano 15 is $140, but they show 13s for $90.

I was put in Keyano's a couple of years ago.  I wear a 4E and and need stability, so I don't have a lot of options.  I was very disappointed in the Keyano 15's, they didn't seam to have the same amount of room as the 13's & 14's.  I tried a couple of different brands after that, but went back to the Keyano's, so I guess that pair cost about $300 including the two pair I don't wear. Yell  However, I did recently go a total different way.  I got a new pair of K-Swiss K-Ona (the blue ones). They only have regular widths, don't have a lot of support, and are A LOT LIGHTER, but feel great.  I have done a couple of long runs (13 miles) and did my last HIM in them.  I had no problems.  I started my marathon training, and have gone back to my Keyano's, but I think I might incorporate the K-Swiss, and see if they will work for me for 26.2 miles.

Oh, when my running store told me 'that will be $90', I said cool $40 extra dollars, show me some goodies!
